I encountered this wee beastie whilst snorkeling off the south coast of the Isle of Wight last weekend. Googling isn't helping with identifying what type of Jellyfish it is so I'm sure the PH massive can help hehe It was about 8-10" in diameter and the tentacles about 20" long. Seemed to prefer to swim near the surface smile

Anyone know what type it is?

Thanks all (knew PH was better than Google wink)

Found more details here:

http://www.marlin.ac.uk/speciesinformation.php?spe...

and have submitted a sighting for their statistics smile

Didn't realise it was poisonous though! My snorkeling buddy swam right into it but luckily didn't get stung!

Woot! I've just made my first use of the new "News" button on each post, thus alerting PH staff to this breaking story!

CZ/GTO-3R you'll soon be contacted by PH's very own Vicky Vale-alike for your reaction to this hot headline.

and now to find more things to report

I think they might have bigger fish to fry.

[punches air]

Oh and Tre?

Stop abusing the system. The OP just wants some idea of what kind of slippery marine life he just interfered with.

Which I happen to think is a jellyfish of the 'Compass' genus.
