I was looking for an everyday watch for my skinny wrists and my budget is about £500. I have seen this Raymond Weil Tango watch for £450 from Goldsmiths http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Raymond-Weil-Tango-Men...

I know my budget isn't massive, but are Raymond Weil any good, or would I be better off getting a nice Seiko watch?

Thanks in advance

Default answer:

If you have to have a bracelet:

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Tissot-PRC200-Automati...

Would certainly have either over the RW, especially a quartz one.

Ooh that first one is lovely. I never thought of a Tissot, mainly because a colleague had one with a touchscreen and it looked a bit gimmicky. But the Visodate one is very nice.

The Tissot is a good watch, but it's not as nice as the Hamilton Infra-matic. http://www.ablogtowatch.com/hamilton-intra-matic-3...
From memory I think rrp is £630 odd, so the Hamilton is dearer than the Tissot, but it feels like twice the watch. I'm sure a healthy bit of googling will turn up a substantial discount on either watched rrp. anyway, so you might be able to bring this watch in on, or very close to budget.

That is very nice as well. 38mm would be ideal for my womanly wrists too. I'm not sure about the strap though, I will definitely go and check one out. I could stretch to 6/700 for the right watch.

Try and find a shop with both. It's not till you see them side by side that you appreciate the differences.

Ah yes, the Tissot PRC200 Automatic quartz chronograph.

"This PRC200 gents watch features a black dial with chronograph, tachymeter and date functionality. The 40mm stainless steel case is paired with a matching bracelet. Precision quartz movement and water resistant to an impressive 200 metres."

Raymond Weil is a decent watch ,I have owned one and I know someone who has worn one for 20 years. Its a watch maker still owned by the family and make decent dress/classic watches circ £1000 or less. As long as you get a decent discount on it which you are at £300.They are well made and made to last. If you like it go for it.

What's the price of the cheapest chronometer-certified Tissot?

My first post in here too!

I also have a Raymond Weil Tango. Had it for about 7 years, battery replaced once no other issues.

It is big enough to not look like a ladies watch but it is nice and thin. God for wearing with suits and long sleeve shirts as it fits nicely under your cuff.

My dad has one. Its a bit Delboy looking but its well made.

I'd personally prefer that Hamilton. Thing of simplistic beauty.

Yeah I'm leaning towards the Hamilton, or the Frederique Constant Classic posted by PJ S https://www.chrono24.com/en/frederiqueconstant/cla...

+ 1.

I preferred some of RW's more modern looking designs, like some (but not all) of the Tango range. Their more contemporary look was better because it was distinctive, IMO.

Thought you might like that, with the Breguet style hands.
Whilst pretty much on budget, and don't be afraid to haggle the price a bit more even beyond free postage (€25 probably), I have to say don't turn your nose up at the Bruno Sohnle linked above.

My default answer to German made, which Glashutte is famous for (but not the only place), is Muhle Glashutte and their 29er Big – it's an elegant sports watch, and which comes in a 37mm size, the 29er.
Very good value for the money, with the quality you get – but I've got to say that Bruno Sohnle is extremely good value, since the movement is gold plated or PVD, which I've rarely seen on anything below the £2K mark, new or used, even.
Not the best pictures, but you can see another model they do in much better detail here, and at 40mm it's not massive, and with a bit of direct haggling (eBay takes 10% or £75 max for fees), could see that in your hand for £750 ish.

Equally, don't dismiss the Maurice Lacroix, it's a really nice piece – of which there's one on the Bay as well, but the seller has mentioned ML45, when it's an ML44.

Hi PJ S, I'm curious why your default German answer is Muhle, as opposed to the usual Sinn or Damasko. Also, any thoughts on Tutima? There are several German greats.

(I think Muhle has great appeal, but was merely curious why it was your default.)
