As per the title. As my manifold is off, I wanted to re-route one of my extra earth cables. I went to put an M8 nut on it, but it doesn't go. I have a feeling it is an imperial size scratchchin.

Just in case the title isn't too clear, it is the bolt at the back of the engine block, behind the nearside manifold and close to where the loom comes out of the bulkhead.

Also, I need a couple of new bolts to put the JE Alternator bracket on. Any idea which ones I need?

The mix of imperial and metric is a real pain!

M8 is normally 5/16 BS. I don't know about this exact bolt though.

The normal stud on the back of the heads for earths is 3/8"UNC into the head, and 3/8"UNF for the nut.

The holes in the heads for most of the brackets are 3/8"UNC, there are some 5/16"UNC tappings but pretty sure they are not used on the alt bracket.

ITS ONLY the later EFI & front cover updates to the lump that have some metric fittings, eg plenum to trumpet base & serp water pump bolts... BTW ~ hardly surprising when you think of the longevity of production and associated upgrades wink

Put your hand down the back of the passenger manifold, between the bulkhead and the back of the engine. Around the back of the head, you'll feel a threaded stud. Ideal for earthing!
