Importing an LS1, Cleveland Pick A Part highly recommended

Hi,
Just thought I'd post a recommendation for Cleveland Pick A Part in Ohio. I've just imported an LS1 with T56 box from them and I was very impressed with their service. They kepted me update date every step of the way, absolutely painless to deal with.
If anyone else is thinking of importing an LS1 or any other yank engine then they've got to be worth a look.

They have an ebay shop, I liked the way they test each engine and list everything that comes with the packages, I received everything as stated and am more than happy with their descriptions. They even sent the flange from the prop shaft which will come in very handy.
Anyway here's my new toy.

Right, a break down of the costs.
LS1 and T56 18K miles with all ancillaries and wiring, ECU and pedal assembly including master cylinders, MAF and prop shaft.
£2500 buy it now price.
Shiping from Ohio £325
Then paid 2.7% duty plus 17.5% VAT then paid £50 for port taxes
All in including hiring a van and fuel
£3340
This was not a special package but one of many available through Cleveland on ebay. Take a look, theres so much available.

Sounds great, sorry to be a pessimist but I take it you only have their word for the 18k miles and you have no way of really knowing the state of the engine internals?LS1 and T56 18K miles with all ancillaries and wiring, ECU and pedal assembly including master cylinders, MAF and prop shaft.

Are you intending to strip it and rebuild it, or use it as is?
Chances are it will probably be all ok as is, and if you did have to rebuild it would probably only need a refresh so presumably still cheaper than a new crate LS?
Was reading on the other thread you are putting it in you 4.2 Cerb and have already sold the old engine which was still a runner! takes a brave man to do that to his pride and joy!
Hope it all goes well, will be interesting to see the end result.
A Crate LS motor...is well...just a motor.
Sourcing all those other bits for a conversion would be a lot of work.
Buying a complete cutout for a conversion is by far the best way...If buying from a reputable seller, Im sure condition is safe enough.
And even at 60,70,80000 miles, I still wouldnt be overly concerned about engine condition. These are modern engines, and do tend to be reliable.

Labour time and new parts can cost a considerable amount but whilst the engine's out it would be a good time to check shells and do a cam change. That said, this is probably going to be a good engine especially as it's known to be a runner before the car was written off. Lets hope it wasn't flood damaged! Obviously not.

Take a look at the advert for my particular engine, before I saw this I had many extensive emails with Cleveland and through their profesionalism they gained my trust to buy. They even gave me a link to the equivalent of an HPI check verifying the number of owners and the mileage.

Please don't think I wasn't worried its always a big step, but all the clues were there that they're good guys. Now I've got the motor home I am sure the mileage is accurate, this engine is no steam cleaned high miler.
Don't want to go too off topic, but I have no intention of rebuilding it, to be honest even if it had 60K on it I wouldn't be touching the bottom end. Anything I do will be to increase performance. I've done alot of research, these engine are built to last.

The end result is a long way off but for me building it is just as exciting as driving it.
