Well, the countdown has started. I have less than a week left of my thirties, for I turn 40 next Thursday.

Not sure how I'm feeling about it - probably the same as I did when I went from 29 to 30, only more so.

So, a question for those of you who have been there before - what have I got to look forward to?

Will anything drop off?
Will anything stop working?
Will more hair sprout in unnecessary places?
Will I make more noise when I sit down/stand up?
Will I start tutting a lot and shaking my head?
Will I have to give my Converse Allstars to the Charity Shop?

Please, teach me the ways of the dark side...

good and bad- Radio 4, your face will be wrinkled till at least midday, bye bye to muscle tone unless you sweat in the gym 2x as hard, you'll get better at sex cos' it takes much longer.. but wont get any cos you are now a dirty old man, you wont give a shit what anyone else thinks, you realise that nobody necessarily knows any more than you about anything, you'll be made redundant - you ARE redundant! Radio 3, AND psychedelic trance, you'll go to Thailand.. people in call centres take you seriously assuming you are 'mature', you'll actually chat to old people for the hell of it and develop empathy for them.. cos you're well on your way, you'll play sports with kids and get thrashed,
certain 20 yr old girls will find you attractive but.. (see above)

Happened to me in May. I don't feel any different, except that I am more aware of my age when I find myself ogling young women (so that's all the time hehe).

This is what I don't get.
Never had much luck with women in my 20's and 30's compared to my peers, now at 45 I seem to be fighting them off with ages ranging from anything in the mid 20's to mid 40's confused

That's because they think an older man will be able to provide them with a house/ money/ presents/ holidays......

.....whilst they discretely knob the pool boy/ gardenener/ personal trainer/ postman/ barman.

Sorry, it's my age you see.

Seriously though, I've used the search function and can't find any evidence of me flaunting my fortyness - would you care to provide a link?

Win-win-win, then? You can cut the pool boy/ gardenener/ personal trainer's salary and they will still work for you. biggrin

It's called "character".

dotdog said:

My job involves a lot of picking heavy things up and moving them. I need no gym.

dotdog said:

I find it difficult to see how I could get better.

dotdog said:

No evidence of that just yet.

dotdog said:

Never have, never will.

dotdog said:

Again, this has always been the case.

Unlikely.

Spookily, I had a message from a 20-year-old in my inbox today.
