320d auto box and remaps
Discussion
I have just had my 2.0d (177) remapped by Superchips ....
The remap is great in itself .... smoother (and definitely does what it says on the tin) but I am not sure whether the auto box is still adapting to it or if it is showing up the slow changes of the box itself ? I have done about 150 miles since the map was put on.
When changing down to, say, 2nd from 3rd or 4th in kickdown the change comes in with a bit of a 'bang' (not literally, obviously) as once after a pause to change it is going right into the torque and creates a brief neck snapping experience
My brother in law absolutely loved it but I am wondering if remaps generally are more suited to a manual box than autos .... or maybe I am getting old and like the smooth but zippy nature of the original map which doesn't have the same power to create the same issues ??
Car is a 2.0d and was rolling roaded at spot on 177bhp on Superchips RR ... then, immediately after the map at 215bhp.
The map produces the power exactly like everyone else's remaps - it follows the existing maps curves just like other companies. Once going the power is noticeably lots more and is nice and smooth
Just the auto / remap combination that bothers me re the kickdown ....
I have had one of their remaps on a DSG Golf GTi and did wonder then whether autos are as easy to drive post remap ....
Am I not giving it enough time to adapt ... I can revert to standard to compare if I want .... but how long should I give the box to adjust ??
Comments welcome.....

I had my 330i auto done yesterday and have noticed something similar your issue. If I'm driving at a steady speed and then put my foot down, as the box kicks down there is more noticeable jolt. It seems that the throttle response is much quicker now than the box, so power is there as gear change happens. I'd say that it's a very small price to pay fo the improved response and torque/power increase. Enjoy.
It has got better now I have done a few hundred miles
My only concern is actually how much torque is going through the auto box now and is it going to be OK ?? I can only assume Superchips are well aware of the torque limits of this auto box and map accordingly. Their map looks on paper no different to anyone else's for this car.

BMW offer their own performance chip for the 177 2.0D (perhaps you could have fitted that instead?)
But I think you'll be fine as you're not loading the car with huge amounts of extra torque.
I hate to think how much the BMW upgrade costs .... I believe it is well over £1K ....But I think you'll be fine as you're not loading the car with huge amounts of extra torque.

The torque with the Superchips remap has gone from 349Nm to 448Nm ...
I am uncertain what the torque limit is on the gearbox for a 320d 177 .... some on forums mention 400Nm but as Superchips map is roughly like other mappers out there I find it hard to believe they, or their competitors, have exceeded the recommended limit on the box .... I hope !

Hi Teapot
Just bought a 2008 320d m sport auto (177bhp) with 65000 on the clock, thinking about a remap and going to evolution chips, they say its good for 217bhp, bit worried looking at this post that i may get problems with the gearbox as that would far outway the extra power.
Has your gearbox fully adjusted to the extra power and torque and has it made that much difference to the power delivery?

The gearbox is used in more powerful models across the BMW range so I wouldn't worry.
