Mozilla FF is already running

I can'get rid of "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
Tried all the bloody solutions - none worked .Tried System restore and even that hasn;t cured prob and i have reinstalled FF - still same prob
The only way i can get FF going is by creating a new profile as the default one gives above message - trouble is i lose all my bookamrks/log ins/toolbar etc - is there a simple ABC1213 way of transferring my old profile to new one?

Uninstall and install the newest version.
Failing that try chrome

Just tried chrome and during install it says close "Mozilla before importing" but Mozilla is not running - and is not in processes either
Can i use older version of Mozilla as i want Google Notebook extension compatibility?

if using XP or higher, there is a "files and settings transfer wizard" or similar under system tools

press CTRL+ALT+Delete

Select Start Task Manager

Select the Processes Tab

Click Image Name/Process Name at top to order by Name

RightClick Firefox.exe as below, and select End Process Tree


Select End Process Tree from prompt.

Once this is done, Firefox cannot possibly be running anymore.
Next install Chrome and import favourites etc
Now you can uninstall firefox.

Job done, sorted, buy me a beer :P

I ain't actually THAT thick -even my 5 year old would have sussed that out - doesn;t "tried bloody everything" mean anything???

Google chrome tells me during bookmarks import that it is a corrupt mozilla profile and i need to do chkdsk -trouble is my Pc does only a bit and then says unable to do chkdsk .I have then scheduled chkdsk at boot up but i get "no direct access to volume"

When you say you've scheduled CHKDSK, did you set a dirty bit flag on the drive?

I'm sure you'll get lots more help if you continue to have a go at people who are trying to assist you. Maybe instead of "tried bloody everything" you could go through what steps you've tried, so people aren't wasting their time replying to you...

So, in answer to your question about backing up / restoring your profile, there are full instructions here. I suggest you follow the instructions for creating a new profile then copying your old profile over as detailed in the bottom section.

Apologies if this is part of the "bloody everything" that you've already tried...
