Finally my own what car thread

So, after so many years of bombing around in motorised derelicts it's finally time to buy myself something that I'm prepared to keep. Here lies the problem: I've always bought to sell on or bought through neccesity so I have no bloody idea what to buy. It has to be family friendly and not ruinous on maintenance. 3k tops

I've been thinking about the usual
Volvo 850T5/R, V70 and C70 of the same ilk
V8 Soarer, IS200 or GS300, Supra
Saab 9-3T but this is where my imagination ends
