Unfortunately it has come to my attention that my passengers haven't been looking after my car as they should (this is always the way though).

Anyway this is what the passenger seatbelt looks like:

Any ideas as to how to fix it or what to do about it?

It's an 18 month old car so possibly it's a warranty job - the rest of the belt is perfect and I certainly don't know of anything that could have made this happen.

From memory - this is a part that must not be repaired, it's a replace only item. I think you just have to pay for a new one. I also don't believe the warranty covers it unless it's clearly a defect that caused it.

Sorry...

Anybody have any idea to cost? Is this going to be a 10 million pound job?

ETA: Called the dealership and was ballparked £150 or so, so I take that as £150 + VAT + Labour so we're going to be £250 at least which isn't too bad I suppose, just a downside of such a nice car that these things have to be fixed rather than left to be.

the seatbelt is £187.69 including vat and 1.6 hours to change, before you order have a look at the base of the seatbelt You will see a label with a part number starting 6g33 the last three letters give you the colour code, seen this a few times some people have managed to get them replaced under warranty stipulating it is a safety item others have not been so lucky,

Got mine replaced under the extended warranty. Its a well known issue, normally caused by rubbing on the leather 'clip' bit at the top of the seat.
Had to phone up the warranty company myself and argue it, as they initally claimed seating was not covered under the warranty. Swiftly changed their minds when I pointed out it was the main safety feature of the car, not a part from DFS

Thanks for the amazingly informative post Rick, the picture has gone off to AM to decide on warranty or not so will update on the outcome.

I know what you mean at the top, this is right down at the bottom as you can see though so absolutely no idea what may have caused it or whether it's deteriorated or anything about it. I just saw it for the first time recently as I've only once been in the passenger seat in the week I got the car!

Just to add mine was also done under warranty (before I purchased the car) so push for it to be covered.

All of you who had it done under warranty, how high on the belt was it?

Thanks

The whole length of mine, from rubbing on the leather strap. Keep looking at the picture of yours and can't see how that has happened. Wouldn't expect it to catch in the door at that position. Only thing posible would be catching it in the seat mechanism when moving the back of the seat, but you would have to try really hard to do that.

Could it have caught the door latch?

I was trying to work this out, but I really don't think it can have, it's too low down to reach out towards any part of the door that could do that.

Haha, beige seats - I think not!
