Don't think Top Gear could have written it
Car had a shake down run a few weeks ago all great.
Car packed last night all great
Car stickered this morning all great
Car drove out of garage and snapped leaf spring all not good
Car booked on Ferry from Portsmouth at 2000 today all not going well
Where to find a 25 yr old new spring?
One sourced and the clock is ticking?
Mechanics working on car now?
Fingers crossed

Mechanics like bees round honey to get it sorted, even the boss got involved. New spring now fitted and car on test drive.
Back in business the lads have been fantastic beers all round when I get back
Just got 260 miles to go till I can relax
Officially 2 hours behind time but all is not lost.

Real roller coaster. The simple answer is I'm still on my way.
Car fixed great
Collect co driver, great
Get to Portsmouth with 15mins spare, great
Then the muppet (me) made a huge clanger, passport?
With all the running around sorting the car the passport is on the kitchen table in west Yorkshire!
Drive back to meet brother at northampton who brings said passport half way
Now at dover with new ticket for ferry to Calais
Meeting another brother for trip down to Le Man's from Calais arrive 3 hours late but still at Le Man's (or that's the plan)

All good in the end.
Have to say a massive thanks to Jos and Alan at the garage, Jos looks after all my cars and as soon as I drove in his face dropped but he took control, ordered the parts and even when the boss said "those bolts will never come off" he was very much, can do, will do, must do. They worked through lunch to get me on the road.
Ferry in Calais early Friday am went straight to my brothers hotel, few hours kip, breakfast and a shower and we were off.
Stressful first 24 hrs went from this

To this with a very much needed beer

Other than that the car ran really well. Another great weekend with good company now trying to work and stay awake.

Agreed its a trip we will remember, however I will try very hard to forget the whole passport thing. Yes a 280. But it has the turbo technics Ford option fitted from new, 200bhp kit not the 240bhp. Hence the single exhaust. Thinking of getting the Y piece and making it a twin but that's not original.

Its a Capri thing mate....the morning of the day we were setting off for our 2007 LM24hr trip, we were sat waiting for a diff crown and pinon to turn up by courier for the 2.8 we were taking. Got it in the end, built it up and had a good drive there and back
We took another Capri the year before and snapped the prop in France

2002 3dr Sierra Cossie spat its planet gears out just north of LM.
2006 T4 turbo'd Capri snapped its prop, again just north of LM.
2007 Capri, just got it on the road in time...steering wheel judder the entire trip but never actually let us down.
2008 Puma 1.7, drove flawlessly!
2009 Civic Type R, we managed to snapped a con rod on this one, about half way from Calais on the way to LM
2010 3dr Sierra Cossie....perfect drive there and back, not a single hiccup.
2011 Didnt go
2012 .....see how the jap-crap does in a few weeks....
