Unfortunetly everyone can now mark off another 04 CV8 from the stat lists of how many Monaro's are in the UK due to a slight accident I was involved in this morning.

I was travelling home from my old man's house in Blandford, Dorset to my base up in Oxford on the A354 to salisbury this morning at around 09.30. The roads were sheet ice. Aparently North Dorset council hadn't gritted this paticular road this morning and there had already been 3 accidents because of the ice. The road was closed due to a cleanup operation and I was stuck in a queue for around ten mins.
Once they opened the road back up, the traffic I was in started to move off. No more than 300 meteres up the road is a slight crest, and as i was accelerating back up to round 45/50 mph, a light blue Pug 306 appeared coming the opposite away completely out of control and fishtailing after hiting a patch of ice.
He managed to hold it for a few meteres before he lost complete control and ploughed into the corner of my 'Ro.

Personally I think it'll be a write off but i'll post some pictures up in a bit and see if you all agree.

At the end of the day, none of us were serioulsy hurt, and I have gap insurance so i'll get what I paid for the car two years ago.......19 grand......every cloud has a silver lining etc.

Anyone got a 'ro they want to sell at the start of the year? hehe

Main thing is that you are okay.

Gutted for the car though as it was quite a good example.

As long as everyone is o.k thats the important thing.

On a positive note as you had GAP you can now buy a 6.0 VXR and say a E39 M5 for something a bit more practical with the way car prices are at the moment!

Both me and the other driver are going to write a stern letter to North Dorset council about this. I was speaking to the other driver recently on the phone and he said that once i'd left in the recovery truck that another two accidents were reported on the policeman's radio on that same road. so that was 6 seperate accidents this morning on ONE stretch of a 10 mile road!
The rozzer said aswell that some other main roads hadn't been gritted and loads of accidents had already happened. They were so worried that they demanded the council send out more gritters. One passed me around 20 mins after my accident........i gave them a freindly one fingered salut.

Seriously though, which nob head in a suit decided to put peoples lives at risk just so he could save himself a few quid and a few bloody grams of salt?

If the roads had not been gritted at all im sure you will have a good case against them, chances are you will get the usual response they were gritted the night before but once they freeze over they wont go out and re-grit them as it has no effect sitting on top of snow and ice.

Sorry about the 'Ro Adam. As you say, at the end of the day it's just metal but still heartbreaking when you've put so much into it. Hope you get it sorted soon.

re the 6.0 VXR @ Grovenor - It's got a CV8 steering wheel! Surely not a mistake in the factory or has it got a murkier past?

The market's not getting that bad mate, it already is and then some!
As for the 360 you'd have to up your bid to tempt one of my toys away from me.

yep 6L easy for that money. Maybe even a vxr8 is that's your thing.

Not sure blaming gritters for accidents is fair. They can't do everything for people. There is such a thing as defensive driving. (just don't ask me about it)

We don't expect them to do everything but surely the gritters should grit the roads. I know they cant do side streets but main roads shouldn't be to much to ask

Glad noone was hurt frown Even more annoying when it's someone else who lost control and not you. All too easy to blame the weather in my view, although it may well have been in this case the fact is there are alot of CRAP drivers about.

As for seeing VXR's for 20k - you may well do but they sure as hell aren't selling at that level!
