As those may or may not remember, I’ve undertaken a whole heap of mods from multiple vendors/indys and promised to report back my findings and experiences of each. I have also been through multiple exhausts, 3 in total for various reasons as well as 3 chips/remaps. Here goes, please note this is my experience, it’s a bit long but I have chucked it all on here for those who are embarking on mods.

In Feb/March I ordered some bits and bobs and it’s been a roller coaster for 6 months, I never in my wildest dreams imagined it would take this long to get the combination of mods to work together. As most will know, you cant just throw cash at these cars, the mods need to be well thought out and structured. A mistake I made frown but didn’t learn the hard way just the long way.

MY FIRST MOD, REMAP.

I originally decided to go with a Pendle Performance map. This was while I was running K16s and cargraphic exhaust, absolutely superb, never skipped a beat and done what it said on the tin. Improved lag, boost and smoothed out the lower end of the rev range.

Once I added the turbos, MD434's from turbo dynamics, I had to get the map redone, Pendle was to far (Yorkshire) so I got Austec to do it and Tognola to fit the turbos, design911 enlarged headers, another branded titanium exhaust, silicon boost hoses and forge DVs.

To say we had major problems is an understatement, no bodies fault really just unfortunate circumstances. Austec tried to adjust the map but Pendle had placed a "no read" on the file. This completely scrambled my ecu and lost its sync with the immobiliser brain. The only cure was the Porsche Bosch tool and a complete clearing of the ecu and immobiliser brain. This meant dealing with Porsche GB to release my security codes!!! What a bunch of morons. I dont get this b0ll0cks, its my car, my ecu, my immobiliser, why on earth will they not release my codes. I sent them everything, log book, passport, D license and nothing- "sorry we dont release codes"! So Diablo engineering finally got the codes for me and recoded everything. 2 week Nightmare!

Once the map was done, the car would not boost passed 1.0 bar regardless of what the ecu tells it. So, I set about changing the actuators to 1.3bar units from AET, whilst there, I got Austec to add a 5 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator. Well......still no joy, we just couldn’t work out what was wrong.

I wasn’t happy with the car, it would occasionally throw up the dreaded Check Engine light so I took it to Fearnsport. Wow, what a breath of fresh air! Immediately, Mat tried to remap the car but he had the same problems and diagnosed all sorts of issues with the N75 valve, apparently it had a checksum error. The car was better but still not spot on, something was missing. Mat advised me to get the stupidly loud titanium exhaust off and come back because he felt it was holding back boost (Ill come to that below).

So, I put the standard one back on, fired the car up and.........magic, the car was phenomenal!! Immediately it pulled like a train, like nothing id ever driven.

Well I’ve just picked the car up today after putting on my third exhaust, Fabspeed and another remap and some other bits like sticking DV's and the car is just incredible! I have never driven or been in anything so quick, just outstanding. Hats of to Fearn, they just know these cars so well, saves time and effort!

EXHAUST.

My Cargraphic exhaust was just to tame, some good power increases with the map but just to tame unless you were on the gas.

Titanium exhaust was ridiculously loud!! You just couldn’t live with it. Then, Mat at Fearn put the final boot in by telling me that was the root of all my problems. It’s just too restrictive; the titanium bends are just too tight and awkward.

Now I have a Milltek fitted, just brilliant, perfect, nice growl and not to loud but throatier at lower revs. Very pleased with it.

MAPS.
As stated, Pendle was great, no problem, Austec, didn’t get a chance to use it due to the exhaust and ecu issues/ Fearn is by far the best, really smooth, some lag but not loads.

TURBO'S
MD434, enlarged and flowed housing, cut back blades based on K24's. Scary! They are laggy, but my god when they come on boost, smiles ear to ear!

INDY'S.
Tognola were not bad, there was some delay and my water hose popped off on the way home but they were attentive and honest. They also done my callipers, paint and laquered. Good job but unfortunately they've faded again. I shall be contacting them Monday and will see if they stand by their word.
Austec were not bad, they did take their time once things went wrong. Once I lost my rag things seemed to speed up. Paul is good but he's very very busy. There is a chap on this forum who was getting his done and had no problems so I think mine was just but luck.
Fearn, without doubt are geniuses, Mat really really knows his stuff. I will never go anywhere else, Im very confident in what Mat tells me, its a nice feeling, and they are not that expensive.

Well that’s it really, a bit long but hopefully it helps some of you about to embark on mods.

To summarise, Turbos MD434 (Turbo Dynamics,) 5 bar FPR, DTek Hoses, Forge DVs, Milltek exhaust, Fearn remap, enlarged headers, 1.3bar actuators.

Thanks.

Hi Jamal, great post. I do agree that Fearnsport are both incredibly knowledgeable and real good guys. Used them now for two years and no complaints. Your brake calipers should be powder coated. Paint and lacquer won't ever work. Even powder coating can start to soften at 110 degrees C but won't degrade like paint will, cheers Graeme.

Cheers guys, not been cheap but worth it! I tried to get the car on a rolling road a couple of months ago but the front diff packed up! This caused the PSM/ABS to freak out. OPC suprisingly swapped it out under warranty.

I haven't had time to get it back on there. Mat was going to get it done for me but again we run out of time.
Does anyone know a decent realistic RR in Surrey or Sussex?

Thanks in advance.

Great post, thanks for sharing and good luck with the car. Matt rebuild my 993TT motor though in my case to standard (X50 430bhp) tune. I too would recommend Fearnsport.

They have a 4wd dyno as seen in this months edition of EVO magazine testing a Nissan GTR.

I'm afraid I won't do the turbo's, can't keep the intercoolers cool enough to get the power out of them so say no. Sorry smile. Only a handful of RR's in the country have the correct fans to get air into the intercoolers, bear this in mind wherever you go.

Hi bud, car is good thanks but am looking to change when the time is right;>

Really glad your car is A1 now, Vbox is just a GPS based performance computer/accelerometer to measure performance.

ZeroH has one, I am sure he would be up for comparing stats one evening etc..

Back from Cali so back on the board !! redface)

As Cal says, I'm always up for some ad-hoc timing - rolling roads only tell half the story, its the numbers that count which is why I data logged my car pre and post remap. As far as rolling roads go, given your location try Ray West who can definitely do turbos and is based in Thruxton.

Totally agree on everything you've said as regards Matt @ Fearnsport - he is top dog as far as I'm concerned and a genuinely nice guy.

Suprised you went with the fabspeed exhaust but interested to hear how it sounds...
