Hi guys i apologise for bringing this subject up again. I have had a feel around the top of the carbon canister, and i have 3 no pipes coming out of it. One goes thru the inner wing and into the plenum. The 2nd runs around the inside of the front valance and goes all along the chassis to the rollover switch on the petrol tank, Where does the 3rd one go to? Pic shows the lower pipe [runs to the petrol tank] and whats left of the 3rd pipe [upper] but where does it go? Anyone out there help, Would someone kindly check on there serp chim where there pipes run too, thanks Tom.

Its a vent/drain pipe odds on - sometimes fitted or not (it comes out on a little elbow IIRC). There are some early cars where the valve is separate from the tank, so a pipe goes from the cannister to the valve then to the plenum, but I doubt you have one of those wink

You should have one end connected to fresh air, the other side connected to the tank (via a roll-over valve). From the same end as the tank, there's a connection to the plenum via the purge valve.

The idea is that the tank can breath via the cannister to air; the cannister absorbs and holds petrol vapours that are trying to escape. Once the engine is running and under the right conditions, the purge valve opens and the engine pulls air back in through the carbon cannister (bringing the trapped petrol vapours with it) into the engine where the petrol vapours burn.

Its been in the garage for the last 12 months undergoing a full bodyoff restoration, thats why the chassis is so shiney.
Thanks for the info guys on my mysterious 3rd pipe. Its 12 months ago now since i started stripping it all down, and i dont remember either undoing or cutting it, but i vaguely remember a cable tie tying it pointing downwards fastened to the radiator rubber mount. Im sure there will be a few more "dont remembers" so watch this space, Tom.

Are you really asking questions or just looking for an excuse to show off that fabulously clean looking chassis?
