After pontificating for some time about trading out my E39 M5 and deciding to keep it, I now feel myself drawn towards a 650i soft top. Has anyone out there made a similar change? If so what did they think. The E39 is a very special piece of BMW finery and I know I will miss a lot of it's rarified qualities, however the number of times I get to exercise it to it's full potential is limited and the 650i is much more accessible for my wife who finds the M5 very hard to master.

Whaddya think? should I make the change?

Yes I have, but not over a protracted period of time, it is much easier to drive and demands a lot less generally.

Is it better to drive and more rewarding?

That is why I bought the M5 in the first place, however the opportunities to exercise it as it should be are becoming a lot less frequent and I would like somehting that wifey can happily drive.

Get the 650i then.

It sounds like your have already made your mind up (are resigend to losing) with regards to getting rid of the M5, so in all honesty, any comparison with a 650i seems to be moot. If you owned neither and were deciding which of the 2 to buy, then it would be relevant.

So therefore, why the 650i? What do you like about it? Have you considered an XKR or Merc SL for example?
