Am thinking of buying a 10 yr old Freelander with a rebuilt engine and an LPG conversion as a run around. What are peoples experiences of LPG? re COST SAVINGS ETC

I had a MGZT 260 V8 which had been converted to run on LPG.
I done 35,000 miles in it over 3 years, and had no issues at all.
Make sure it has the certificate showing that it was professionally installed(can be registered with DVLA as alternative fueled vehicle), and it needs an annual service to replace filters etc
The cost of LPG has risen significantly over recent months as with everything else, but at around .70pence per litre v 1.30per litre for petrol still makes sense, provided that you are doing the miles to warrant it. But then again, if the instalation has already been done, its a no brainer really.
They reckon that you suffer a slight drop in performance with lpg, but for day to day driving, realistically, you cannot really notice. HTH

Remember that most LPG systems use petrol to start the car, and then automatically switch to LPG once warmed up.

In my case, this is usually under 2 mins and about one mile's driving. (From a proper cold start)

If your journeys are very short start/stop, then you will not see as much benefit from LPG as you would from longer journeys.

Factor in a lower MPG too - running on gas will return around 80-85% MPG performance compared to petrol. (Completely dependant on the quality of the kit and the installation obviously)

Do you know the manufacturer of the installed kit?

PRINS is a known quality brand

I have a BRC system (that I had installed at my expense) that has far exceeded my expectations in a 4.6 Range Rover, and has paid for itself in under three years.

ETA:

Make sure that your insurance covers the vehicle, as LPG is a modification.

My current insurer loads my premium by a whopping £13 per year biggrin

Many threads on here about this with lots of info - a search will bring them up. I did a 330i BMW which was great and I documented on a couple of past threads.

The Freelander with rebuilt engine might be the weak link though - people who have had LPG problems were using cheap kits or fitting them to cars that already had problems...

Cost of LPG has risen a lot from last year. Same as petrol and diesel.
Last April I was paying 67.9 per litre, recently I paid 85.9 per litre.
No such thing as a free lunch!

ETA: No detectable difference in power when using LPG vs Shell VPower.
