And in today's 'silly police' news ...
Discussion
Police in Sandown, IoW arrested a pub singer for offending a Chinese person who walked past the pub and overheard him singing "Kung-Fu Fighting".
Up to four police officers in Pitcomb, Zummerzet interviewed villagers over a "Hitler-like" mustache drawn on a political poster.
A farmer who complained about 'travellers' (who were illegally occupying adjoining land) cutting trees on her land and who was threatened by them with having her throat cut and violence to her farm animals, was visited by armed police officers who took away her shotguns and her licence. At the time she remonstrated with the 'travellers' the guns were secured in their cabinet in the farmhouse.
Three uniformed PCSOs spent a day fishing with eight youngsters in Hemel Hempstead ... "to build relationships with the community".
I don't blame the officers involved, they were only following the law and their orders. It's the asinine laws (and the blinkered, cosseted, divorced from the reality of life, politicians who passed them) and their politically correct, lacking in common sense, application that are at fault.

If she's made threats towards them in return then removing her firearms sounds like a sensible move - we all know that police would be pilloried had they not done so and she did use the gun.As for the PCSO's in Hemel, sounds fairly sensible to me. If it helps get the youths on side then fantastic - don't forget a fair chunk of crime involves youths, either as offenders or from them doing the running about. If those PCSO's can later find out from those youths who is dealing and where, or who is responsible for a spate of shed breaks etc then it's worth a few hours fishing surely?
I reckon there is more to the IoW bit than is reported in the papers. I reckon there is more to the confiscation of the shotgun than is in the article. I think this because there always is.
As for the fishing with yobs, when I started on patrol I developed tea stops where I would go and chat to shop owners, small businesses, caretakers and such. I probably spent 30% of my 'free' time doing that. We had a shooting at Liverpool Street underground one time and I knew that one cartaker had two sons, one of whom was in the TA and often brought air rifles home with him. I 'solved' the crime in the time it took me to walk across to the building over the underground, chat to the caretaker, ask if I could see his lad's bedroom which overlooked the station and there was an air rifle propped up at the foot of the bed.
The lad had a brother who was a little less than sensible and I nicked him and he coughed to it. The prints on the gun merely confirmed it.
We'd had a spate of illuminated signs being damaged in the City, over 200 in a year, and he TIC'd them. I got a Commander's commendation for that job. Mind you, the TIC forms took some filling in.
You have to know your locals.

It's all very well standard plod getting to know people, but what's the point of PCSOs doing it?
And yes, taking away the farmers guns may be justified, but only AFTER dealing with the 'traveller' situation first. If they aren't going to protect her and then take away her method of protecting herself, what kind of precedent does that set?

Admits to commission of other similar offences in adition to the offence(s) with which charged. Would not be charged with all of the similar admitted offences but the information laid before the court when deciding sentence so would be dealt with for all of them.

A Sgt in a Northern force has been under investigation for the last 10 weeks for gross misconduct as a result of sexual comments he made to his own partner, who has no issues with comments. (would be funny if that sgt wasnt me)
Diversity at work. Don't you just love it.We're losing frontline Officers hand over fist. Oddly, the Diversity 'celebrate black lesbian month' department remains untouched,
Good luck.

You can understand how this would annoy a normal law abiding member of the public.'Good' behaviour appears to be be rewarded with nothing but crippling taxes and apparently harsh punishments for 'minor indiscretions'.
Continued 'bad' behaviour appears to be rewarded with a very softly softly approach, multiple second chances and trips/activities to help/raised morale in these 'disadvantaged' individuals.

On here at least many would offer to pay for her cartridges.
Our local PCSO has got a football team going, and does lots of projects in schools with local youths.
As a result, our youth offending is low, but there is still a hard core of people who continue to carry out all manner of pointless vandalism.
For those, when caught, I would suggest that they don't need "rehabilitating" or re-educating - they know full well what they are doing is wrong - they need PUNISHING!
They should never have abandoned birching!

I need it, despite 14 years totally unblemished service all on the front line it appears i am well and truely being hung out to dry over this "diversity issue" which hasnt really affected anyone victim wise. The only people it has effected are me, my partner and my family as since it kicked off in early february it has put us under massive stress.
The police federation have been useless, no contact, not returning calls etc. I am now at the point where i am considering seriously paying a large chunk of cash to seek specialist legal employement advice.
Do what I did once. My Fed rep was predictably useless, so I went to the local Fed Office at HQ, found the 'sit on my arse all day' permanent rep and camped in his office. I insisted he represent me and dealt with my case on a personal level. Things happened (sort of) after that. The police federation have been useless, no contact, not returning calls etc. I am now at the point where i am considering seriously paying a large chunk of cash to seek specialist legal employement advice.

PCSO's work specific beats too and they have on the whole more 'free' time than regular officers. Why wouldn't PCSO's need to know their locals? I'd say on the whole it's more important than the regular officers that they do!http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s...
