3GT

I was at the dealers early this week and had a really good look round the demo they had.

I get it, it's a superbly packaged car, it's foot print looks no bigger than my F30, I say looks but the addition of the hatch is a nice touch in terms of practicality, I have a 20 month old so think about this stuff.

Anyway in the flesh it's a very nice looking car, much better than the 5GT.

It looks like a superb alternative to the standard 3 series if you need a touch more space / practicality

There was a thread on here a few months ago and the general consensus was that it's too ugly, too expensive and therefore pointless.

I like it. When the driver has long legs, the normal 3 series becomes hopeless for rear passengers. The 3GT addresses that problem.

It's opinions etc but I think it looks great and would be a great place to cover miles.

I have always liked the 5GT, and I immediately liked the 3GT when I first seen one in the pictures.

After seeing one in the local showroom a few weeks ago my enthusiasm for the GT models has not diminished

I like the 5GT as well, I just think the 3GT looks smarter.

I have always liked the 5GT too love it's rarity & I can see the 3GT doing pretty well as an allrounder.

I've never liked the 5GT, both in the metal and in pictures its always looked wrong to my eye. Oddly (I haven't seen it in the metal yet) the 3GT looks good to me, somehow the proportions just sit much better with me.

I was hoping to like it, but alas, the one i pass on my way to work everyday has merely proved it to be no looker at all. I wish BMW would just make a proper MPV and be done with it!!! The only car they make with 3 decent rear seats for 3 child seats is the X5, and I don't have £50k to spend!
Oh well, another new scenic it is then...!

I borrowed a 3GT for a couple of days last week, while my M135 was in for a job. I found the 3GT to be very wallowy, with very poor support from the seats (non M Sport) Also the 2.0d engine was very gruff which transmitted into the cabin far too much IMO. A recent 520d I borrowed was much more refined and quiet.

We have a 5GT here at work, so it was easy to compare. Parking side by side the 3er was almost as big as the 5er. And in fact had as much or more rear boot storage space.

Although I do wonder why someone would buy a 3 touring over the 3GT unless it was based on looks.

So basically for years and years BMW have made just executive saloons & estates yet now they
accept the whole concept of the hatch hinged boot not long after Audi release the A5 saloon/hatch combination.

One question, doesn't having a GT 3 series render those stupid X1/X3 variants even more useless.

I suppose if you need extra ground clearance they might have a place.
