I need 5 good reasons not to buy a boxster S this weekend that the Mrs is desperate for in place of the Liz.

I have to be honest, it is beauty and never thought I'd be remotely intereseted in one but the thought of such luxuries as a CD player, climate control, electric roof etc are very appealing and it drives superbly.

Talk me out of this madness.............now!

1. It's a Porsche
2. Everyone will think you're a ponce
3. Porsche servicing costs
4. £1k+ for a set of rubber every 6mths
5. It's a Porsche

My business partner has the S, and it's a hell of a car, but I can't say I'd have one. If you want luxury then it's fine, but it comes at a price.

1) It's impossible to tell if you're looking at the front or the rear of a Boxster
2) It's a girls car (most round here are driven by women...your missus wants one....)
3) It's no more fun than an Elise
4) It's more expensive to run than an Elise
5) No one buys an Elise to ponce around in

Just noticed that you're an Investment Banker....

Could you really drive a Porsche? Surely too much of a stereotype?

Maybe you should go and look at an S2 Elise first? Bit more plush inside, ABS, easier roof etc.

4. My Elise has got a CD player too wink
5. Whatever

But it's probably the best balanced car.
If the price is low then why not...

Buy a newer Elise... the newer the better as they really are good quality cars now.

Buy one. Simple fact is that its the best all round sportscar you can buy.

Ignore the rubbish about servicing and tyres as well. If you use a good independent sevicing will work out no more than an Elise (intervals are 20,000 miles). Tyres last for ages with road use.

Life is too short to stay with the same manufacturer / car. There are loads of fantastic cars out there to try.

best answer so far!

can't remeber who said this first, but a boxster is the car for the peoson that wanted a 911 but could not afford it.

if you really must get the porka, then it's really either the Gayman or the 911.

That's true. Its a 2 seat mid-engined sports car, not a 4 seat rear engined GT.

5. Its a step backwards, the few owners I know have ditched their boxster for a Lotus.

Now get a grip and grow some nads. wink

1) I knew someone who had an £8,000 engine repair bill, for slipping liners, ouch.
2) Their pop out spoilers look totally st. What a bodge.
3) Thirstier (a bit).
4) More keying danger from jealous scrots.
5) Laughable option prices.

Other than that they are beautifully made aspirational sports cars.
But then I like leccy roof S3 MX5´s as well.
