Doesn't seem like a particularly good idea to invest within the UK, things are simply too expensive to be worthwhile, and starting a small business seems a little hit-and-miss too.

How can I take my £10,000 and make it profitable?

Hit me with ideas folks!

Have you not seen the news - gold is down and not as attractive as it was.

Shares - buy low. sell high. There are quite a few that seem low to me.

Emerging markets funds? As with most things the boat may pretty much have sailed by now though.

On a more sensible note, no not Iraq, South American funds are turning handsome profits for some:

Seriously though 10 grand isnt really enough to get rich with.
What about a cleverly chosen franchise, or are you just looking for an easy quick buck?

Or how about a sthole terraced house in a run down area and rent it out to DHS people?

Is it not? Several people have made fortunes starting with a lot less.

Friends in USA tell me that Silver is set to make huge gains in the very near future because of a shortage coupled with high demand from some industries!

Yeah but not by asking for advice on a forum? I'm sure they had a certain amount of personal business sense.

A friend of mine is currently seeking investors in his business. £10k would buy you 2%. His business is in the service industry and they've just secured a 3 year contract with the NHS. PM me if you'd like more info.

Best of luck to your friend, I hope he makes a success of it. I do wonder though, why such a business does not seek the entire finance from a bank. Surely that would make your friend more money, rather than having to split the profits with others?

Re: £10,000 to invest?
As mentioned already, £10k is not going to change your life whatever you invest in. The £30k from the sale of my Ultima has just gone into premium bonds for the short term. I will need to win at least £100 a month to make it worthwhile, will let you know how it works out in 6 months!

I believe the bank would only lend on the basis of being able to take a charge on a property and he doesn't own one.
