997 turbo deprecation the facts.

Bought my 997 Turbo in December 2007 had a valuation for insurance purposes today, my fantastic car has cost me £730 a week in deprecation. The up side, is my insurance premium has been reduced and tracker is no longer a requirement.

The burning question is was it worth it, well fu*ck me YES

But the good news is the depreciation should lessen as the years go on..

crikey! i thoought i had the record. 2003 996TT purchased in oct 06, sold in july 08. 300 per week depreciation (not including running cost and mods ). worth every penny and some!

Everyone's different.

Six years ago I bought a Boxster S. It halved in value over three years. Ouch. Then it halved again over the next three years. Ouch-ish. In another four years I'll have had it for ten years. If it was worthless it would have cost me £4.5K a year to own. You can't run a "replaced every two years" Mondeo for that.

You pick your strategy. When I've been driving my car for fifteen years it will have been dirt cheap.

My Cayman S has probably halved in value in the last 15 months.

Not great but I knew the rules of the game.

Remembe - if its got t1ts or tyres its going to cost you!

Well Adam it wasn't my intention to supply the used car market with Turbos, events overtook me, and to the guy that says I must be loaded well not any more

Amen to that. According to the OPC my GT2 dropped 28K in 5 months - I don't really give a st though as in those 5 months I've driven in convoy with 2 veyrons a Ford GT and a Carrera GT, driven at 150 around a track and made an enthusiastic R8 driver feel like he's wasted his money - well worth the cost

I feel the same way about my car, it's lost most of it's value, seems a waste to sell it to be honest

Especially as the car is clearly designed to last 150,000 miles (or more) and so far I've done less than 30,000. It's in immaculate condition, been garaged all it's life, serviced to better than Porsche's requirements and is exhibiting no symptoms of expensive-to-fix faults thus far. It drives as well as it did on the day I bought it - if not better - and I'd be offered peanuts for it.

Why the hell would I change?

One day something too expensive to be worth it will go wrong. But not for a long while yet I'll warrant. It could happen. But there we go...

Porsche Insurance (Norwich Union) got £125 refund and do not have to have that stupid tracker ste so saves another £200

Porsche Insurance (Norwich Union) got £125 refund and do not have to have that stupid tracker ste so saves another £200

No VTS? Marsh / Porsche / NU whatever insist I have one on my 997!
