Audi A4 DTM - Buying advice
Discussion
Im very much a newbie when it comes to VW/Audi's, but after the recent decision that im going to start looking around for a new motor and get rid of my current two which are a Range Rover for everyday use and a E36 BMW for weekends. I want something to be fun yet comfortable but professional. I became self employed just over a year ago and its now getting to the point where i occasionally collect my customers and show them round our datacenter. So the car has to fit that job.
I came across the Audi A4 DTM on a 05 plate on the pistonheads classifieds of which id never heard of before. The spec looks very reasonable and has the sporty yet professional look to it, and im sure with the 2.0T a little tunning can be done long term.
Has anyone any advice regarding these? And can someone clarify that the Quattro system is 4WD.
Many thanks

Wow you're quite thick really! Many thanks
Of course quattro is 4wd. Quattro meaning 4 and all that - Where have you been over the last 25 odd years of quattro setup being used in audi cars- they're kind of famous for it.
Of course if you were asking if it is haldex or torsen then I would have refrained a little in my opening paragraph.
Caution: A4's are not famed for rear legroom.

Echo, that - I think the response was unwarranted and not indicative of PH . I know someone with a DTM A4 and have been it it, it's a pretty nice place to be tbh and they stand out as something a bit more special than your boggo A4's. He has had his played with (a bit, nothing extreme) and it's up to around 280 from memory. I'll drop him a mail and point him in this direction... just hope you see fit to rise above the first response and dip your head back in

my thread has arrived.Ive got one Rob, great motor if you want a fairly quick daily driver. Only made 1000 of them worldwide, and only 250 in RHD, so quite rare. It was a special edition model Audi made to a) celebrate winning the DTM in, err 2004? and b) to showcase the 2.0T engine that later came out in the SE model. Tuned by gBmh in both engine and suspension. Much more steering feel than the previous T Sport model I had. Some nice bodywork mods (OK mostly fake, but looks good). It looks better than the S models, but not quite as in your face as the RS.
Nice seats. Carbon trim, gob smacking brakes.
Have had mine tuned to 260bhp by Quatro Sport in Sussex which gives it a useful amount of extra poke, without getting too silly and still returns 30+ mpg on a run.

agreed, unwarranted reply, from the gent above. Many of the folk who wander in the Audi/VW section here post on other marque forums as well, myself included.
The quattro setup uses a torsen diff in the A4 upwards. The A3 (and the rest of the VW/ Skodas) use a haldex setup which is badged as quattro but doesn't use the torsen setup.
Torsen- TORque SENsing diffs which really do let you lay down the power and provide great levels of grip, it works really really well, and offers daft amounts of grip. I have seen a few DTM ediitons as well, but not for a long time. if you hark back 15-20 years ago the Audi DTM cars were for my money the best sounding/ performing around.
A quattro will be typically 5mpg worse off than the FWD equivalent a little slower to 60 (in the dry)
The 2.0T is from the only go i have had in one rather nice. And capable of being wound up quite a lot. The same lump is used in the S3 so there are options available. DrG on here i believe works for a big Audi Indy (unless i have gathered that wrong) and should be able to offer more sound advice on this engine.

Whats with calling people "w
ker" anyway, couldn't you think of an eloquent description such as odious? next time you score more points for 3 syllable words.I'm still amazed that certain "pistonheads" don't know that audi quattro means audi's 4 wheel drive system.
This may be seen as trolling but I'm serious - who really doesnt know that, I though it was some sort of wind up?

Given the guy is called E36Rob, i guess he isnt an Audi man... some of my BMW question may seem thick by comparison, if in doubt ask. Edited by FUBAR on Monday 10th November 10:24
by quattro gmbh, that puts it in with the RS's then, in which case this sounds a little bit more special.
Did they get suspension/ brake tweaks as well?
Agreed on the steering feel, i have a quattro sport on the B6 chassis which has some feel to it but doesnt match the old cars when it comes to knowing what happening. I must say i have seen but not ready up on this car before. E36Rob, got a link to the car in question? I am sure FUBAR can answer anything you want to know.
hman is right, they are not roomy in the back, even my kids find it a squeeze. If you 6ft upwards you might find the central console intrusive for clutch/knee/steering wheel interface.

Stupid/thick - I'd consider them pretty much the same.
Point is the chap asks a completely valid question given that Quattro badged Audi's came with haldex and torsen systems.
To me, you gave a w

Do you still think he's really thick ?

kers response, go back and re-read my response to the OP's post. You'll find that :-
RobE36 DIDNT ask about the haldex/torsen thing- I put it in my response to illustrate that IF that was what he was asking about then I would have been more restrained in my initial response.

Indeed HAD that of been what he was asking then I would have appropriated a more informative reply instead of decent old fashioned piss taking.;)
You really should make sure that you get your facts right about how said what, to whom, and in what order before you go around calling people names.
Because lets face it, you've got it wrong twice in two posts and thats an appalling success rate!

Read, understand, reply. thats the order I like to use, try it some day.
Many thanks for the serious replys.
I noticed that it was removed, a shame and ye i thought the price was cheap for a 05 car with 15k miles. But im not in the position to buy quite yet as i have to get rid of my other cars first. So proberly around the new year so wanted to build up some infomation before i can seriously start looking.

Good luck with your car choice in the new year.

Glad to be of service cheers for the info

Where are you looking at one?
I only say as one in the colour shown in your other thread appeared in the Classifieds this week with 15k miles and was VERY cheap. Stank of a scam and the advert was pulled. It may have popped up somewhere else.
