So, been watching the second series of this on Discovery, and I've just got to ask if I'm alone in thinking that their work is utterly shocking on every level?

I'm all for having a go at building your own car, if you have the skills to know decent design when you see it, but the last one I watched (Martin Kemp's Gangster car) was nothing short of shocking. It looked like a bad TT replica from the front, and the back end was so utterly massive the thing looked like it was being driven backward, looking at it's profile. The balace of the design was off completely, and the whole thing looked like a dog's dinner. I was *staggered* by it's horribleness!

I'm a designer, and have been involved in design all my life (my Mother was an Art Teacher), so I appreciate decent design, but I just... can't... understand why they think this is decent stuff to put on the telly!

Martin Kemp actually seemed to be pleased with the finished product too. Honestly, my jaw hit the floor...! eek

Is this the show with the Asian guy 're-designing' cars with an ugly hammer? I've seen a couple of episodes and found it hilarious, I'm hoping its being aired with a huge dollop of irony on the producers part.

Their cars, as you say, look like ste death traps.

Yup, that's the one. Kinda looks like it was based on that Pug 206 advert from a few years ago...

Jayzus, ugly just doesn't go anywhere near describing how bad these cars are...

Nope you're not alone!

I'm amazed these "creations" are allowed on the road at all in the first place, never mind how they look. You're not telling me they're safe!!

My god! eek

I watched one of the episodes for the 'Gangster car' they were chopping the springs with an angle grinder to lower it, then they discovered one of the spring mountings was loose just before they were going to send it up the 1/4 mile.

I think Martin Kemp had to pay for that crap mobile aswell.

Makes you appreciate shows like American Hotrod and Overhaulin a whole lot more, surely us brits can do better that that!

The cars are pretty shocking, at looking at some of the old ones, dangerous. Quite how they are legally allowed on the road is beyond me.

If the cars were fettled slightly, I could respect it a little more, but every episode seem to involve buying a FWD shed with lunar milage, then chopping the springs and welding lots of metal to it.

Christ, I've seen more Halfords Corsa's with more appeal.

Agreed - the first one they did (which was actually one of the better looking ones) was the "Sumo BMW". They had to have special spacers made up to fit the wheels as they'd made the bodywork so wide. The spacers were alarming - about 7 inches wide! eek

Completely safe - up to about 6mph... rolleyes

The program is utter ste, the owner (Bernie) gets right on my tits and that Lepoo or whatever his name is, seems to be obsessed by "Sumo Stance"

Sorry, but who in their right mind wants a car based on the shape of a sumo curling one off?

Crap of the highest order

I quite like Custom My Ride though, some of the cars they do look pretty good when they've finished. I'll probably get Sin Binned for saying I like it though!

I remember the BMW with the wheel spacers. Oh, and last nights Capri was truly horrible. How a celebrity could be impressed with their work is beyond me rolleyes

I enjoyed the first series, where they worked in Bangladesh with hardly any tools whatsoever. The cars were still horrible but at least I could see the amount of work that went into them! This series takes the piss though, Bernie suppossedly worked on supercars previously, yet he is blown away by 190 bhp in a two tonne Capri? I don't get it...

I think the word 'celebrity' explains it!

Also, if they've had to put up their own cash to actually fund the creation of these monstrosities, its probably a touch of the emperors new clothes syndrome.

I quite enjoy Overhallin' though, they do at least seem to do things properly.

Apparently all the cars have to be inspected and tested by the SVA people.

I am ashamed to call myself a car designer next to Leepoo.

I admire his fabricating skills but not his ideas and styles.

Nah - I quite like Custom My Ride too. Thought the new tech Charger with the old-skool charger body was stunning, and would actually be in my dream garage...!

Chop Shop is the other side of the world to that. I can't believe anyone thinks their st is worth buying. Just ste!
