Chaps,

A quickie.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a garage in the Belper / Derby area, for someone who could do a good job of fixing a Vauxhall Zafira ('03 model) with a busted cambelt.

(Yes, I know the ramifications of a busted cambelt. I haven't seen the vehicle, but am staying with some friends whose Zafira broke down somewhat spectacularly yesterday, and this is the diagnosis from the AA.)

It doesn't need to be a Vaux specialist (although this would be a bit of a bonus), but a good oily garage who is trustworthy with such jobs, who won't be hideously expensive and who will offer good service.

Chaps,

Two excellent, very quick answers. Thanks.

As it was, not necessary, but I'm just as grateful. The friends in question are old ones, and we went up there (from London) on NY Eve to find them just arrived home in an AA van, having had a cam belt on their Zafira fail and ditched it at a place called Marehay (local Vauxhall specialist/garage - not sure if they are a dealer?) The friends are neither car enthusiasts nore practical, so were happy to grumble about the price but didn't want to do anything other than have Marehay fix it.

They authorised Marehay to diagnose the problem, then were apalled with the quote (£1500), so I called around a few other places, including the three suggested here. As it was, while Marehay they were expensive they had already started the job (as in, they had the head off and the problem diagnosed, so the car wasn't really movable). The cost dropped by a fifth with a bit of haggling, and it looks like they will have the work.

However, I strongly suspect that future business will be going the way of Grattons as they were helpful on the 'phone. So thanks for the recommendations, particularly as they came up so quickly.

Oli.
