As the title I've taken delivery of my U-BOAT so chuffed with it, built like a tank with a 50mm face. Pics to follow when home.

A mate has one of those - he's 6ft 5" and built like a gorilla and the watch still looks daft.

All subjective of course - hope you enjoy yours in good health.

Hmmm...I always considered TW Steel to be "homage" watches to U-Boat. At 1/10th to 1/5th the price, the TW Steels aren't really in the same league.

out of curiosity, is there any reason why all U Boat watches seem to be left hookers? (i.e. crown on the left)

So you don't rip your hand off when you bend it back for what ever reason. nuts

Let's see a wrist shot of that U-Boat, OP; I'll be very impressed if it doesn't look just a tiny bit daft.

I've never hidden my dislike for the current fashion for huge watches but I would still like to understand how it became so. If you were flying a Spitfire (or I guess piloting a U-Boat) then there was a reason for having something large, for example pilots used to strap their watches over the cuffs of their flying jackets so they could see them easily whilst flying and I assume there is a functional reason why submarine watches are so large? Outside of the environment they were intended for, to me, they look like the playschool watches we used as kids to learn how to tell the time. Swiss craftsmen spent hundreds of years perfecting the miniaturised internals of watches so I just don't get this current trend for ever increasingly over-sized sized lumps. Each to their own of course, but can anyone seriously explain the attraction to me?

Thought they were divers' watches so strapped over the wetsuit. Not sure why they call them U-boat as you don't need something so big or rugged... or water resistant. If water's inside your sub, there's more to worry about than whether your watch is waterproof or not! biggrin

Right so that explains that one, seems fair.

Only thing is... U-boat are made in Italy yet everyone thinks they are authentic Russian divers' watches. (Well, I did.)

I would have expected something called 'U-Boat' to be German confused

Interestingly, there's very little mention of water resistance on the U-Boat website (which, confusingly, seems to be Italian). Most watches that claim "dive heritage" or whatever scream it from the rooftops (witness the Breitling Avenger Seawolf - they're not at all shy about telling us it's 3000M WR) for all but a very few models, and they seem to be a modest 10Bar (which is basically swim/shower proof).

I know, fancy buying something because you like it, not because of the brand name!
