Looking at a MK GT1 radical type looking car at the moment and was wondering if anyone has either owned or driven one that can give me some advice?

The model that i'm looking at is powered by a Honda Blackbird 1200cc engine with 6 speed sequential Gearbox.

Are they reliable and are they quick?

Any comments welcome

Dan

The main problem is that you can no longer get any body parts for them,so if you have a bump, your going to have problems getting it repaired,Ive never drove a GT1,but I drove its replacement the MK GTR,which was a designed to be a big improvement over the GT1,all I can say is don't expect it to handle like a radical, but if its well set up,with a blackbird engine,it will make a quick little track toy, they are a rare kit,as there was only a few produced, but due to not being able to get replacement body parts or chassis etc, only buy if its cheap,£5000/£6000 maximum in my opinion.

The MK GT1 was taken over by Spire Sportscars, and is in current production

Hi,

<<---Thats a GT1 in my profile pic.

Just to correct a comment above it is the GTr that spire sportscars bought not the GT1.

Of the 10 kits manufactred I have had two, the 1st one was written off at Cadwell park the second is now in the Netherlands.

The last I heard the bodymoulds where in Scarbourough but that was two years ago so getting any repalcement panels would be near impossible.

The Dominator of Kit car crisis fame bodywork will fit with a lot of fiddling but I think that is long gone to now.

They handle reasnably well but to get the best the rear susspension pick up points need moving also the diff carrier needs beefing up, you can actually see it flexing as we noticed on a rolling road session.

Where have you seen the car your looking at ? At one time I knew the whereabouts of all of them but have lost track over time, if you want any further info feel free to ask, i was verly clos;y linked to MK at the time of the GT1 so am reasnably qualified to comment.

The only one I know that is for sale is this one.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=485

Its been for sale for the last 18months,even though he keeps reducing the price, its not even road legal at that, needs to be £3000 less in my opinion,he might be able to sell it then.

Thats the one i was looking at, its just down the road from me.

It was £13,995 lsat year hence the reason for the interest.

Probably gonna give this one a miss now and look towards the spire cars.

Thanks for the input guys.

Hi I have the original molds of the MK GT1 and the Rights too it, bought off Martin Keenan, which are for sale.

Above MK INDY said that the MK GTR was designed to be better than the GT1! thats wrong! my dad only bought the molds and not the chassis/chassis jig/design as Martin Keenan kept it to use on MK GTR. so the only main difference between the MK GT1 and the MK GTR is the body they will handle a lot alike.

If you wish to contact me wanting any body panels or are interested in buying the molds jamespelucci@yahoo.co.uk

thanks

Why worry about body parts? I put my Phoenix into the wall at Sepang last year, serious body damage, as I have the only one within 8000 miles the choice was ship over a new body or build one, I had a guy patch the body back up and take a mould off it. Ok labour is cheap in asia, but he hasn't done any thing I couldn't do in my lock up, If I saw a piece of kit I wanted and the price was right I wouldn't worry about body parts availability,
Same with the chassi part we replaced two rails on my car and all four of the suspension links.

It appears you are wrong, have not got a clue what you are talking about, as confirmed by Jon Ison "The MK gt1 and the once MK gtr now Spire are two totally different chassis", they are completely different cars !!!!

we had 2, nice little cars, very enteraining to drive, lots of fun, if it isn't done it's best to uprate the chain drive system as it can twist & kn**ker your chain, other than that if you can find one at the right money go for it thumbup
