I'm putting this up at the direct request of NCS (Nick Smith) the RO of SE London NW Kent TVRCC. The rumour mill is currently working overtime and he would like it known that yes he & Carrie did have an accident in the Griffith this morning on the Autoroute not far from Calais. Both of them are fine and have been discharged from hospital to a hotel and have decided that they will carry on with the planned holiday including the LM classic, Nick's a little sore from a seatbelt bite & Carrie has had a small cut on the back of head patched up but they really are fine.
The Griffith however is believed to be a fatality and is not expected to be repatriated, but the pair of them are adamant that the strength of the chassis is what saved them even though both ends of the car (and some of their luggage) is currently making a french hard shoulder look a little more tatty.
They just want to reassure everyone not to worry and they'll catch up with you all on their return.

Just a quick update.
I have just spoken to Nick and he has asked that I post up here.
He and Carrie are doing fine, they are touched by the amount of people that have been in touch and wished them well.
They are finding more bumps and small cuts as the evening goes on, but are glad to be still with us.
I have also seen their girls and they are both fine if a little shaken up.
His replacement vehicle will be winging it's way across the channel tomorrow (
George and Mick).
I too wish them a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear the news. Glad they they are ok(ish).
A small point about the Griff; it mentions in this thread that the Griff might not be repatriated.
Now the legal position may have changed, but it used to be that if it stayed there permanently, then this amounted to the car being imported into the country. If the Griff doesn’t come home, French import duty would become payable on the value of the salvage.
Can anyone confirm what the current legal position is? I would hate Nick to get a sudden tax demand months down the line.
Best wishes
Craig & Sue

Griffs aren't replaceable - but people are. What the hell are they doing scrapping a Griff while its owner continues on with his holiday?

Only joking Nick, been there and done that, happy to say there isn't a T-shirt to be had.
I'm glad you both walked away OK and wishing you a speedy recovery.
