Well, on my way home from work tonight, I binned my Chim - about a mile from home too!
When I left work, it was 3.5 degrees and raining. My house is about 100ft higher than work, and I was didn't even consider the possibility of ice.
Was 100% my fault, driving too fast for the conditions, and I have absolutely no excuse - when I got out of the car, i realised that it was icy - I think I was driving to the conditions, as if it was wet, but as it was icy, was obviously waaaaay to quick!
Anyway, I ended on my side after a series of over corrections in a 6foot stream/ditch, and had to climb out.
The body is knackered, front and back split, so it is a total write off, the O/S rear wheel has been knocked onto the chassis and is bindins, and the stering rack has gone.

So as from the weekend, I will start stripping it for spares..such a sorry day for me, I really am feeling low now, but on the plus side, I walked out...Will post some pics of the car before and after, when I can get some pics - My mob also fell in the stream, so is being dried out as we speak!

So guys, please take care, and if one person can slow down because of my mistake, I will be chuffed.
Will upload pics at the weekend!

Good night, and take care!

Tom

Know how you feel. Mine was written off early this year. Have to say i thoroughly enjoyed rebuilding it from the insurance payout. Not really a goer if chassis damaged though. Prob also not worth it if the car is not heavily modified too.

Can't remember and not fair to speculate but ISTR the price was well within the affordability range. AntonyJ will probably know.

Tom, I'm glad you're ok and I know a bit about how you feel in that I had a beautiful TVR written off in September whilst travelling back from work too. Different circumstances but still gut-wrenching.

On reflection, it may well be a prudent plan for you to strip the car for bits as I really did not get a good insurance pay-out for what I estimated a good car to be worth. In hindsight, I should have made the insurers an offer..

Onwards and upwards mate and here's to the next onedriving

Well, here are a few pics....
I think it will be a write off, was looking to sell in Marchish to pay for my house, so can't afford to spend £££'s fixing it. It's completely standard exc. exhaust, so will have to break over winter :-(

Well guys, take care, I have learnt the hard way!

Insurance buy back after a write-off is prob gonna be 28% of the payout value. For a 400 in that condition it may not pay to buy back and break for parts IMO. That will be a cat B or C write-off looking at the pics. Really sorry to see that. yikes

I agree Jon, the chassis may have escaped damage but there's too much destruction to the GRP for this to be within a repair payout. For example, see how far the offside boot has moved back from the rear wheel in the first photo. Let alone the destruction of the front n/s wing.

Again, all the very best Tom.

Tom, Sorry to hear that, glad you're ok though.
I was driving back from a friends house through lanes last night - jeeeeez, it was sooo icy, just idling along really. Any power and the car was very sideways in narrow lanes. A couple of close calls on exits of corners.

If I had gone at anywhere near wet conditions pace then I would have binned it several times.
