The Home Office has quietly adopted a new plan to allow police across Britain routinely to hack into people’s personal computers without a warrant:

I'm sorry for positng yet another civil liberties thread.....I just feel very strongly about the subject; is it me or does the pace of these incidents seem to be getting quicker?

I guess they'd do this under the terrorism act, that one always looked like trouble when they introduced it!

Does anyone know if there is a quick and easy way of protecting one's 'puter from Plod?

I don't have anything to hide (before the replies come in); and I realise that the chances of a random search are slight.

P.S. I would leave this country in a flash if I could....it breaks my heart that it has come to this!

Indeed.

So write to your MP and demand that our Civil Liberties are protected, those liberties our Grandparents fought to preserve..

Just run a non-standard operating system, like Ubuntu or similar. If you're only using internet and email theres no need to have Vista or XP.

In the main they're looking at analysing your network traffic not your actual machine so your ISP is more important than any measures you take.

Have you any interest in cars at all? There is no mention of any under your profile, and you certainly don't EVER talk about them. Why exactly did you join PH? confused

How can I convincingly get some stuff on my PC, detailing how Gordon Brown is a KGB plant and Peter Mandelson is Osama Bin Laden in drag...?

Well this is posted in the general interest section and there is nothing in the T&Cs to state that you must talk about cars.

Fair enough, I was just interested why someone would join a website like PH to keep posting this stuff. We all like a look in P&P, but most of us are here to talk about cars as well. I didn't realize it was a car/politics site, thanks for clearing that one up. I might join a few websites about politics and ask what induction kit I should be putting on the Lotus.

I have an enterprise class firewall at home, with a DMZ and separate LAN segments for my data. Bring it you sgs. If your ISP starts handing out data though, you'd have to encrypt your traffic directly.

The P&P was created to shift non-car stuff out of GG...

Wakey wakey...
