The British Grand Prix is to move from Silverstone to Donington, it has been reported. Silverstone has been in talks with F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone for weeks but apparently was unable to secure a deal.

Ecclestone reportedly takes race away from Silverstone
‘We wanted a world class venue for F1 in Britain, something that the teams and fans could be proud of,’ said Ecclestone. ‘Donington's development plans will give us exactly that, a venue to put British motorsport back on the map.’
The F1 supremo added that he was disappointed that the Government had not stepped in to help Silverstone keep the race. ‘I am sorry that we could not have helped Silverstone to raise the money to carry out the circuit improvements and run F1,’ he said. ‘I believe that the government should have supported them which would have cost probably less than .002% of the government's commitment for the Olympic Games.’

Donington is much closer to me than Silverstone so in that respect it's a good thing for me. But I have to repeat what others have said, Donington is nowhere near Silverstone in terms of accessibility, track condition (and length) and also facilities. It's going to need years of work and millions to get up to where Silverstone is now, let alone surpass it.
At £15m a week in extra revenue to to fuel prices the Government is raking in, they could have given some money to Silverstone.
All they've said is F1 is a cash rich business, so they should pay for it.
Computer chips were a cash rich industry years ago. Didn't stop the Government giving hundreds os Millions of pounds away in grants to business for them to open production plants over here.
First sign of the chip value dropping, they packed their bags (still stuffed with Tax payers money) and buggered off beck home.
This Government is a joke. Bet some ministers are at the race this weekend. Enjoying the FREE hospitality and Tickets that you and me have to save our massivily taxed wages to pay for.

surely the Donington management must have plans in place for some of the much needed improvements to both circuit and access? can't see Bernie jumping to use the circuit as is - last time i was there the pit lane looked positively Dickensian - because it won't meet standard. they have 18 months to 2 years to get it ready so some work must start immediately.
local residents can't really complain - airport next door, MOTOGP, Download festival etc so a weekend of screaming F1 engines isn't going to be much different. i grew up 5 miles from the circuit and you could hear stuff occasionally but it's not exactly constant.

There is no way the local council with grant the appropriate licences to let that sort of traffic in.

Donington has worse access and facility issues that Silverstone had.
IIRC Berny played Hell over the access and facilities at Silverstone and made them spend millions on improvements.
Now, because the BRDC will now grease his palm with even more cash, he will happily go to a small track with ste access and bugger all parking.

Let’s face it Silverstone has had more than enough time to address the issues that have been reiterated by Bernie and F1 for years. Whenever money has been made available for improvements it has been allocated to the areas that are restricted to the privileged few rather than the majority paying public. For the money you pay for a ticket you rightfully should be able to expect better facilities than those that are on offer at Silverstone. I am not saying that Donnington is perfect but let’s give them a chance to show Silverstone how it should have been done.

Would be great to see F1 cars on that track. Silverstone is so boring and flat with rubbish viewing. Even Brands is a better spectators circuit.
Of course none of this matters, as its all political. I heard that Ferrari prefered Donnington and asked the little grey tt.....

Are they going to totally demolish and rebuild the existing stand/pits area and/or the unused one that was previously built got GP.
Also the track is not long enough. I know I'm not alone in thinking the National circuit is better than the GP. Question is where they going to put the extra track and are we at risk of a great circuit being totally redesigned.
