Always thought it was a step too far. Labour can't afford to piss anyone off any more.

I'm confused. I thought the world was going to explode or something if we didn't pay more taxes. So does the recession mean that baby seals will no longer be clubbed with sunburnt penguins?

I think they would have dropped regardless of the recession, it was grossly unfair and would have been deeply unpopular with the general public.

Great news.

They will be brought in just after an election so it will look like the Torys did it.

So, deferred for a year, rather than dropped.

Fingers crossed - pick up my RX8 in a couple of days (yes, I know it should have been last Friday but my bank are utterly utterly useless and took 5 days to do a 3 day transfer - apparently the day you initiate and the day it arrives don't count all of a sudden!) - pretty sure it was heading for the top whack band.

'coures, I still shan't be voting for this shower of sh!t who claim they know what's good for me!

That's how they reported it on Sky, reading the Telegraph piece it's not really the case.

Ignoring the excessive increase in road-tax since 1997, what the current system highlights is Gordon's obsession with meddling and over-complicating things. We used to have a single road-tax that everyone understood, now we have one that is based on (deep breath) exhaust emissions, fuel type and age, unless your car is pre-2001, in which case it's based on engine size.

It was indeed! Mine was going to be £320? a year. I only cover 6k miles in that time in it (no commuting). How is that fair?

Excellent, if its true I'll spend the saving on fuel (which, in an RX8 shouldn't take long by all accounts, but that's where the fun is!).
