We went to support the Viper, but we were gutted for the Ginetta and awesome TVR Sagaris...couldn't belive our eyes at what happened, looked like the Mosler driver got too keen on the throttle when the light turned green for the rolling start...and power-slid, the other cars were just caught up in a pin-ball of evasive action. For what it takes, time, costs, the team, qualifying to get a car on the 24 hour grid, this was so tragic, as 24 hour races are not won by who ever gets to the first corner, first.

The other cars continued on slow laps behind safety cars, for nearly an hour.

The trapped in-car TVR driver is expertly rescued, and air support swiftly arrives. Having worked as a race track medic, the rescue crew today were surperb.

The race is underway, once the track is cleared.

Lights go on!

Last of the light to be able to photo!

Well said N GTS, and thanks for sharing the pictures.

I'm told that the Mosler driver responsible has lost his racing license as a result and also that he was to be interviewed by the local constabulary.

The TVR driver apparently suffered a broken bone in his back but the Ginetta driver walked away unharmed.

It was a great race but it is so sad that two teams didn't get to participate after all there efforts preparing...

I was told that it was 6 points, licence held by the MSA and exclusion from the meeting.
Why would the Police need to be involved?

The last I heard regarding injuries was a broken rib and possibly a punctured lung. Last known was that he was sat up in bed talking to family.
Richard Dean was very lucky

It was a great meeting, though slightly overshadowed by the start incident, but once news spread through about Andy the overall mood matched the sunshine.

I thought that was odd too, but that info came on Sunday morning from a guy in a dayglo jacket who said he was a steward. Corrrect me if I'm wrong but I think the phrase was: "Driving in a manner incompatible with the safety of other competitors."

Well, given that the Silverstone Stewards have trouble guiding people into the correct car-park i'd take that with a pinch of salt until it's confirmed by a reliable source.

Let's face it, Plod are never involved with the obviously deliberate "Nudging" that goes on in the BTCC (e.g. Turner on John George today) or the Clio Cup etc etc...

At worst, the Mosler incident was Driver error or a car issue. There was absolutely nothing malicious or deliberate about it.

Fair enough, the phrase you quote is enough to be excluded/points on licence etc, is odd that someone called themselves a Steward, as they rarely come outside during the race.

Which is why i assumed it was an Event "Steward" rather than anyone actually involved with the On-track action..

If there is an incident where there is serious injury to a competitor the car is always kept under lock and key for potential Police investigation should the driver not make a recovery.

If nothing else to establish, formally the cause of the incident and if that was driver error, mechanical or otherwise. Likewise video and stills evidence is also requested in the most serious of cases.

No race steward would be likely to have made such a comment. Even one form a Belgian circuit.

My presumption too. There was enough rumour and speculation flying around, was obvious not many people actually knew.

Onepostonly, what is your role at a race meeting?
