Will those that like supercars, please put their hands up.

Now, will those that like photographs of supercars, please put their hands up.

Is that everyone???

Well, after meeting chalkyman (see 'Hants photographer required' thread) we discussed the possibility of myself shooting for the Supercar club at which he works www.clubvelocita.com. They already had the cars photographed however, they weren't photos that really sold their product.

So, after a few weeks I got started with the cars. They gave me full artistic licence (and the keys to them for a night or so smile ) however, we agreed that the shots should be nice and simple and all of a similar style.

Let me know what you guy's think. I'll put them in order of shooting.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

I got drenched doing this...

Bentley GTC

Porsche 997 Turbo tip Cabriolet

A few people don't 'get' this photo personally, I really like it..your thoughts?

Don't place suction cups over protective film, you'll have to remove the film if you do...whooops

Ferrari F430 F1 Spider

A rushed rig effort between the downpours

A quick lunchtime photo

Lamborghini Gallardo Spider e-gear Haven't finished with this car yet.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster
The one I wasn't allowed to drive frown I also haven't finished with this yet.

Thanks for looking smile

Fantastic shots there.

One or two have been spoiled by the number plates not sitting right. That might just be me being picky though. The rig shots still amaze me, wish I could afford that gear!

+1; some great photos there. I also noticed the wonky number plates though. I really like the Ferrari engine cover shot.

Dean, you've posted CAR photo's in the PHOTOGRAPHY forum! Thats just not cricket! wink

Nice job that, my first break was doing stuff for Ecurie25 - its also a tidy way of getting to drive some nice toys thumbup;)

Nice set of pics, they hang together well with perhaps the exception of the 430 shots outside the warehouse. I think the GTC ones are my favourites, and you've got some great skies in all of them - lots of shooting just before/after sunrise/set by the look of it wink

I quite like the 997 Turbo one you refer too, particularly your use of DoF. I think I'd have shown a little more of the car?

Few nitpicks (I'm sure you're already aware of most of these!):

ASton rig, stick on numberplate not being flush bugs me
GTC wheel, badge needs to be upright
997 Turbo, I'd prefer the steering wheel perfectly straight (its slightly to the left)
997 Turbo, rig - the white blends into the sky a little on the o/s wing
430, rigshot needs Velocita numberplate - Photoshop?
G Spider - I'd have the windbreak down

As I say, thats being really picky - its a good set and I'm sure Vipul is very happy which is the main thing! My faves are GTC shot1 & 2, Turbo Cab 1, 430 engine rig & LP640 shot 3.

Cool skies, did you do much in post or are you using filters?

cheers,
Steve

I think these are your most mature work, if that makes sense. The Gallardo ones closest in style to stuff we've seen from you before (which isn't a bad thing). They hang together really well as a set, which is exactly what you need for promotional photographs. I suspect the client is very pleased with these, they certainly should be.

One thing I want to know, where is that road? Looks great fun to drive, especially in a selection of cars like that.

Thanks. Yeah, numberplate is rather wonky in some of the shots and indeed, peeling off in a rig shot (I was 'given' 2xsides of velcro...both the loops).

Thanks. The F430 outside the warehouse was just me hankering to shoot a couple of photos off of it whilst on my lunch break, they do look out of place. I'm with you on the GTC shots. I think they're the best of the bunch by a good country mile. The ambient was great, the location suited the car and I was really 'feeling it' whilst shooting it. Probably becuase I'd had more than 3hrs sleep, unlike all the others cars in the series

Hurrah, somebody likes it smile Agree on showing more car, I do actually have a similar shot but in portrait which I think works better.

Few nitpicks (I'm sure you're already aware of most of these!):

ASton rig, stick on numberplate not being flush bugs me See above
GTC wheel, badge needs to be upright -
I had a little play with moving it but the reflections was bugging me and I lost all patience by then

997 Turbo, I'd prefer the steering wheel perfectly straight (its slightly to the left) - Agree

997 Turbo, rig - the white blends into the sky a little on the o/s wing - Bloody white cars smile

430, rigshot needs Velocita numberplate - Photoshop? Could possibly PS it in, the sticky backs of the velcro had given up by then

G Spider - I'd have the windbreak down Must pay more attention

As I say, thats being really picky - its a good set and I'm sure Vipul is very happy which is the main thing! My faves are GTC shot1 & 2, Turbo Cab 1, 430 engine rig & LP640 shot 3.

I tend to use filters for most of my shots to help but, the dramatic skies are mostly down to PS
Thanks for the feedback Steve smile

I totally agree Dobbo. I was definitely aiming for a more 'mature' and editorial style with this series, I'm glad you noticed.

It was great to have the cars but, I didn't really get to enjoy them all that much.

This was the process:
  • Wake at 3am
  • Drive to location
  • Clean car in the dark & rain with microfibre towels
  • Set up gear
  • Get mollested by Ponies
  • Be scared stless by military helicopters on random training
  • Photograph the car whilst being shouted at by people for blocking the road
  • Drive home
  • Quick browse of the photties checking focus etc
  • Have a shower
  • Drive car back (only chance to really enjoy it)
  • Pick another up
  • Go to work for 1430
  • Finish at 11pm and repeat.

It would be a fantastic piece of road but it's a 40MPH limit and it's littered with retarded, wild ponies that ponder accross the road. They pause half away accross the road and I've found that shouting at them doesn't work, they just come over and look at you cross-eyed with a 'whatever' look on their face mad

As Nick says, these are far away and the best shots I've seen on here in a long while. Truly very impressive. Love the 430 engine shot, but they're all top notch. Shame about the plate in the aston rig shot but I'm sure you could do something about that.

Awesome!

What a fantastic set of car pics. The lighting in the AM shots 2 & 3 is particularly nice. The F430 realty is a beautiful looking car. smokin

You are so lucky to have driven them all (almost). Why didn’t they let you drive the Lambo?
