Murdering bds put to death.....

Thousands of murderous bds requiring the same treatment....
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20081108/tuk-uk-militan...

Though, here in the UK, would they ever receive the ultimate punishment, no matter how severe the atrocity ?

Nah, kill them and forget about them. Too bad the victims families cannot forget them, but we should - all this nonsense about 40 virgins in heaven, let them find out ASAP.

Personally I think the government should fund a scheme to supply 50 virgins to anybody who doesn't commit acts of terrorism.

I disagree. Once you have a few thousand 'political prisoners' you provide an excuse for future attacks with terrorist groups kidnapping and bombing in order to force their release.

However, it would strongly dissuade those who would otherwise be indoctrinated if all that became of thier 'hero' was that they were put down like a dog.

Have to agree with the OP. For those of you that remember the IRA hunger strike, the only martyr whose name anybody remembers is Bobby Sands. Another bunch starved to death as martyrs after him, but nobody remembers them (well, nobody who wasnt directly involved). And the ironic thing about martyrs is that the more there are of them the less effective they become.

As much as i agree with your sentiments, i still do not believe that anyone should be put to death. The death penalty is simply a tool for revenge and anyone relishing the death of another is equally as guilty imo. Lifelong imprisonment sure, but nobody no matter what they have done deserves to be killed.

You are joking?

Some recent examples to benefit from your tolerance:
- the infant baby who was killed by having the spine snapped over the father's knee
- that child in Mexico who was kidnapped and killed with an injection of acid into the heart
- that couple in Miami who were bound, gagged, tied to the anchor chain and thrown overboard....alive
- the various unfortunates over the past few years who have been buried alive, burned alive, dismembered, blinded, tortured and generally died in the most horrific and painful way that the subhuman captors and assailants were able to dream up.

The death penalty is not a tool for revenge...it is a tool for taking the life of someone who does not, in any way shape or form, value human life and instead derives a perverse kick from torturing and killing humans

As a side consequence, it has the rather helpful outcome of removing from society individuals who, quite simply, do not deserve to even breathe the same air we do.

I respect your views and admire your ability to take that position.

Personally, I would not even waste a bullet on them but just throw them down a mineshaft.

I knew this wasn't going to go down well but could you, would you be the executioner? If you believe people should be murdered for their actions then you should be willing to bring them to account. I totally agree that these people have been very naughty and i do not have an ounce of sympathy for them but killing people just seems a little old fashioned nowadays.

Hmmm....I think you are trolling to be honest but let's assume you believe what you are saying.

There are a lot of people (myself included), who would happily do it.....but for the fact that some do-gooder will start carrying on about the rights of poor Johnny who did not have any toys when a kid or some other rot and that we would be the ones who would have to be charged.

I often wonder, when I read what people are capable of, what the reaction of the man or woman in the street would be if they were placed in a position of thinking about what the victim went through.

Let's take an example.

You have a young son. He is kidnapped. He is held for a number of days, no doubt scared out of his mind. He wonders when the people that he trusts in the world to protect him will come for him. You call the police, conditioned as we are to pass law enforcement onto others. The kidnappers panic and go to your son, probably hold him down, and stick a syringe into his heart, press the plunger and inject acid into his heart. Now, can you possibly imagine what that would have been like to experience and what went through that little boy's mind in his last moments? No grace was given, no compassion, no thought at all to what they were doing to a completely helpless little boy.

So yes, people with your viewpoint can sit with the kidnappers, discuss what they did, how it was wrong and that, since we cannot lower themselves to 'their level', we will have to just keep them in jail for the rest of their lives.

I don't share that view.

Yes, perhaps we should talk to them. Perhaps we should try to understand them. Perhaps I might actually listen to whatever drivel is coming out of their mouth as we trundle over to the mineshaft that I mentioned above.

There is a line that is crossed when the acts go beyond an accident or 'heat of the moment' and into the realm of sadism and evil. I don't think it is "murder" to dispatch those creatures to the afterlife.

And the reason that I, or others, don't do it to answer your question is because we are the ones who would then spend the rest of our lives in jail.

I am neither an idiot or a troll, yet I do not believe in the death penalty and never will. Because someone does not happen to have the same view as you does not make them stupid.

That rather depends on the subject matter and thier viewpoint though.
Heres an example.
I hold up a black card and assert my opinion that the colour of the card is black. Someone steps forward and declares the card to be white thereby disagreeing with my view. The card is black. They are stupid, See ?

That is not a sensible analogy - your example is an absolute, or something that can be tested and shown to be true. It is a matter of fact, not opinion. Something that is subjective and requires an opinion can not be defined as such.

Indeed, fact may influence opinion but it does not define it.
