pulled up on the drive after a great weekend tearing about with a few TVR'S. Unplugged the road angel and put the cigarettelighter back in. Then to my horror i noticed smoke filling the cabin. Looks like the lighter shorted out, and has burnt the casings off some of the wires. Dont understand why the fuse didnt just blow and stop all the damage. The fuse in the fuse box in the boot had acctually melted into the box. At least the doors and everything else not conected to that particular fuse seems to work, and the car drives, so it's off to Dream machines to see how much they're gonna shaft me. curse

yikes
Rightly or wrongly this is one of the reasons why I'm reluctant to use one of those plug into your cirgar lighter socket type permanent charges.
Is it so bad the garage have to fix it, does it fall into the DIY category confused

It was'nt the plug in that did it, it was putting the fag lighter back in that did it. I think it is more than a diy job unless you're an auto electrician. The damage may run from the front of the car, right round to the boot. I suspect the fuse box may be damaged also. oh well i will find out monday. NOTE: just be carefull if you buy a fancy non standard lighter!!!

What did it look like?

I've heard of non std fag lighters causing problems on our cars before.

Oh dear!

Had mine fixed recently!
Not sure if they repaired or replaced it!
Don't smoke, so think I will put a lower rated fuse in just to allow satnav power and Optimate charger operation!

Thanks for the heads up!
