Just one question about the Porsche Coxster.

Sport Chrono package or similar. You have to pay ~£507 to get a stopwatch and improved throttle response. WTF?

So unless I am misunderstanding something.

The throttle response is a bit crap as standard and you have to pay extra to get it set up properly, and get a watch thrown in. Or......

I must be getting old.

Great episode apart from Ian Wright which as I recall seemed to be half an hour's worth of drivel.

Brilliant show probably the best yet, your right about wright though it's a good job he could kick a football, he would never have made it as a brain surgeon.

Am I the only one who had to look away (like a big girl's blouse) when those blokes climbed that cliff. Even when he was at the top doing his Shawshank Redemption impression, I couldn't look. Those guys are complete nutters. Who in their right mind hangs from their fingertips at that height?

He was taking his time, have a look at this chap. He actually jumps for handholds and very quick

Yep - was killed in '98 doing a 1,000 foot jump whilst tied to a climbing rope. Phenomenal climber & adrenaline junkie but definitely a bit unhinged.

Yeah what a tool

Could have knocked over a second off his lap if he hadn't been such a cock

Why the whining about Ian Wright? He might not be to everyones taste but the guy has talent and worked his way out of a wayward youth.

The only thing that peed me off about this edition of TG, was Wright crowing about being a dopehead, uninsured, untaxed, unmoted driver, and JC being PC didn't get stuck into him for being a knut!!!!! Just because Wright is a celeb (?) don't tell him what a fool/eejit he is???? How damn PC can one get? and JC is not known for being PC!
AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind loaded questions like these so long as they are not from the same guys willing and happy to pay twenty thousand pounds more for a shiny new Aston Martin V8 because it has a "really great exhaust note."

Yes I know what you mean. My thoughts were more aligned to a thread on advanced driving forum (iirc) where RobM77, myself and others were discussing drive by wire and lousy throttle response.

Others were saying there is no problem, we were saying that there does seem to be a deliberate delay in response and that it can be a problem. Can't find the thread now. Anyway discussion involved whether this was due to control of emissions or dumbing down. Probably a bit of both in my view.

Anyway I recalled that conversation when hearing that Porsche wanted extra to give you better response on the Coxster.

OK I'll stop rambling now...... back in my corner.

Sorry but I didn't notice Wright glorifying his mispent youth, in fact he seemed to say that his stint in prison brought him to his senses and made him work his arse off to achieve what he has.

Driving without tax, insurance or MOT I think he said. Something which is quite rightly vilified on here.

I agree with XM5ER, I don't think he was justifying it or boasting about it, merely relating an experience of his life.

yeah really enjoyed it. good entertainment.

But am I the only person who was annoyed at Ian wright? driving 3 years with no tax insureance or licence and a reference to canabis smoke in teh car. And people in the audience were laughing. yeah nice one Ian cheers. what a guy.

was I brought up on a different planet to other people or what? I would never have considered breaking the law like that at 17. He seemed to think that that what people do. No doubt a huge group of kids who look up to him like a hero are now not going to bother getting a licence either.

any how I want a RS4

edited to add just read the rest of teh thread so I see im not alone.

Thats the way I saw it. Is there anyone here who hasn't done stuff we're now ashamed of? When I was a nipper drunk driving was almost compulsory.

I think Wright was just being honest. I think some here are miffed because wright didn't waste time by stating the obvious. Of course he's not proud of what he did, but that was the way of *his* world, and he knows (and we know) that it still is for many.

I think he made a very good point when he was saying that he'd tell the cops that there's no point in them giving him a producer 'cos he ain't got nothing to produce. But hey, he didn't create the system whereby it was (and still very much is) so easy to just buy a car and get in it and drive it.

Y'know, there are things that need addressing with the car registration system, and until these points are addressed it is extremely naive to imagine that young drivers are just going to obey the law and not drive. That ain't going to happen, and the sooner we and the govt. realise that, the better.

For a young and poorly educated man, the temptation to drive is just too strong, and there is virtually no detterent to not do so. Insurance is so expensive that many are just not going to bother. The penalties you recieve now for not insuring is less than the cost of insurance in the first place. And the system would prefer to pursue those who are law abiding enough to register themselves in the first place.

And then what about the driver with a bad record, who wants to go 'straight'? How does he get himself back on the road legally when he has to tell his insurance company that he has motoring (and possibly other) convictions. What system is in place to help these people? None, so they continue in their ways even if it is not out of choice.

Its no good blaming those who flout the system for the system being so easy to flout in the first place. By having a system that is so easy to flout means that the 'system' itself is also guilty of conspiracy by putting temptation in the way of the feckless.

For the benefit of any ex-pats who miss Top Gear and haven't found a good download site, the current series is available on EMule within about a day of it appearing on TV, allegedly, I have been told, etc.... Download for my friend takes a couple of days, so he watched Sunday's episode tonight. Good quality, 700 Megish files.

Anyone interested, then do a global server search for "Top Gear S07" and you'll see the first 2 episodes listed.

Allegedly some of us can download it using bit torrent using www.finalgear.com to find the tracker, usually about 350mb (they take a 700mb one and re-encode it) which is more than adequate quality.

I’ve just finished watching it and to be fair I was a bit disappointed really, the Porsche Cayman piece was average but really that bit on the Audi RS4 made it all worthwhile. It must have taken a small army and several helicopters to shoot it.

That Vanwall car story did nothing for me, I thought the car was pretty ugly actually and very poorly shot/edited. The Maserati 250F feature shot in the last series was infinitely better, I still really want that car now (any one got a million quid to spare?). Star in a reasonably priced car was pathetic as per usual, just a complete waste of time that could be dedicated to something more productive.

So really can we come to the conclusion that they produced a poor show and stuck the Audi piece on last just to make it worthy of watching. Format went something like Clarkson in Porsche > Absolute drivel > Clarkson in Audi.

Re episode on 27/11

The comment about Jezza looking like a teapot when he filled up the Ford GT had me

And if you'd been behind them in the queue out of that garage how brassed off would you have been!

Mind you getting our own back on Frogs! Much more subtle than blocking a motorway with heavies and setting some sheep on fire.

Ladyman interview? OK never going to be a defining moment but Jezza let him off the hook on RTTM.

Again when Ladyman said people with points weren't loking where they were going and Jezza pointed out he Ladyman was the one with 9 pts and Jezza had none again a moment.
