BBS Motorsport wheels = slow puncture.
Discussion
Has anybody else had this problem? I have a new wheel which is leaking from one of the seals on the inside of the rim and this is loosing pressure a period of time.
What are my options, does it need to be sripped down and re sealed? is this a common problem?
I have had the wheel 6 months and only just got round to putting it on the car.
Regards,
Barry.

If you have done a check in the bath and it is def the seal, you could also try checking the bolts. Torque is only 14 or 16 lbsft from memory.
Quite a few have found them to be loose but it still may not cure the seal leaking.
If all that doesn't work them send them back.

I would be inclined NOT to do that... Im pretty sure they'll check the bolts to see if they have been 'undone' i.e. looking for tool marks as this invalidates the warranty.
On another note, the other thing that kills seals in split rims is 'wonder wheels' alloy wheel cleaner... Never use it on split rims.

Barry,
From our experience with BBS wheels, when they are new the wheel bolts will need retorquing once or twice until they are bedded in. To be honest its something worth checking on a regular basis.
If you do need to take them apart whether its a 2 or a 3 piece rim, then its recommended to replace the seal. You can get a kit for this for about twenty quid per rim, basically its just a piece of plastic with a rubber insert on each side. I doubt you will need this though.

With all split rims you can expect some leakage over time especially if they haven't been used for a while.

Guy,
Some good advice, cheers.
When you put the wheel in water it is a very small bubble, TBH hardly noticable but the wheel is loosing (when on the car) about 4 PSI a day.
I will have to source a tool to try and tighten it up.
Cheers

Gricey had a prob with a new set of wheels at the ring a couple of years ago and found a good few bolts loose so gave me a heads up as we had bought in the same deal. When I checked my mine about a dozen were finger tight

I think i will check all the wheels for peice of mind. I didnt give this much thought when i bought the wheels but thinking about it know it doesnt inspire me with much confidence.
Managed to source an attachment yesterday to tighten the bolts, are you sticking with 14lbft tighteneing torque?
Cheers

What sort / size tool do the bolts need, and where did you manage to pick one up. I've got the same problem on my BBS Motorsport Mags - one loses about 2 psi per day, and to my knowledge the bolts have never been re-tightened. It's got to be worth a try.........
thanks,
Jamie
Oops, just realised this thread is pretty ancient - anyway can anyone help ?
