Hello all,
bit of a long shot as the above dealer is long gone and you dont see many 80s ford on the roads around South Wales these days.
My RS500 Cosworth was originally supplied by them from new, its had a few plate changes since then but I am hoping to get it back to as it was when it left the forecourt.
I can get the dealer stickers, plates etc remade but the chap needs to see an original rear window dealer sticker to copy.
If anyone spots an old 80s ford on the road, or a scrapyard could they take a pic of the sticker if its a baker one for me please.
I used to see them all the time around Cardiff, but since I have started looking again they have all gone to ground.
Appreciate any help
cheers
PAUL

thanks for that, I have even thought of taking a trip to Merthyr and having a drive around to see if I can spot an old local fiesta or escort in a carpark.

This is a bit of a long shot but there are quite a few guys who used to work for Malcolm Baker still in the Pentrebach area working for other garages ( I htink this was, for example, true of a couple of the bodyshop guys at Citroen If you could track one of them down, they might have some old stuff which would help? Malcolm Baker and Eric Baker are friends of my family, Eric Baker passed away a year ago. I know some of the mechanics who work in Thomas & Davies who use to work for Malcolm. I will ask around and ask Malcolm if he still have any of the stickers left. He had dealerships in New Tredegar, Haverfordwest, Aberdare and Merthyr.

Andrew That would be fantastic, thanks very much, even just a pic of one would help. I am still trying to trace the cars early life, if he remembers selling a moonstone RS500 back in August 1987 that would be a bonus - it went straight off to Leicester from the dealers, she is a rare example as still standard and low miles, has dealer fit aircon (one of only 2 such cars made) cheers PAUL

No Problem Paul. I contacted Malcolm today but they are away. Just been going through my house looking for any W.H Baker letter headings, invoices and other stationery that they made but I can't find anything :-( . I remember the Ford Sierra RS 500'S coming to his garage and being invited to have a look at them, I was 15 at the time. There were 2 of them and one was a demonstrater. I don't remember the registration of the Demonstrater but the other one in the showroom was unregistered. I know one of the salesman who now works for Aberdare Ford, his name is Tony Pugh, I think he would have been the person who sold it back then.
I have contacted a few mechanics who use to work there about the rear window decal and asked them if they knew of any Ford cars sold back in the 1980's which are still on the road that might have the decal. I'm also trying to remember what the decal looked like. My email address is adt310@hotmail.com. I will try my best to find what you are looking for. Cheers Andrew

Hi Andrew, Really appreciate all the trouble you are going to. Most of the RS dealers were only allocated a couple to sell, so the chances are mine was the unregistered one, as the first keeper was the company in Leicester. I am hoping to get it back on its original Merthyr plates, here are a few recent pics.

Hi Paul
Your RS 500 looks like it have just come out the factory it looks like it is in excellent condition. I can't promise anything but I will try my best to get a decal, a photo of one or I will get a friend who will photoshop it for me. Baker's use to sponser a Bowls Club in Merthyr, that I know a few people there and Baker's adverts were in the Club Programs, so I'm asking people to hunt for those programs because on the advert there was the rear window decal on the bottom of the page. It's a shame that there is no 1980's photographs of W.H Bakers on the net.
Cheers Andrew

Thanks Alan for the info
Andrew managed to find a pic of a can with the baker logo on it, so I will send that to the plate maker for him to copy.
DVLA have now confirmed at last I can have the original registration number back on the car, so will get the plates made up and post a pic when its done
cheers

That really is stunning.
My Dad had a new E reg (E525TCS) Sapphire Cosworth (nothing like as rare as your RS500 of course). We lived in Anglesey at the time but having rung around a number of dealers locally he eventually found the one he wanted up in Scotland. So he got the train up to Aberdeen (iirc) and used the journey back to partially run it in.
Then he he had BBR tune it to 300bhp or so.
I was 17 at the time. Fantastic car.
It died after a service though. caught alight in Menai Bridge about 2 hours after he'd brought it back from a service. Sadly missed.
He got a 309 gti after that. good car but not a patch on the cossy.
