I've always had a soft spot for these (I may well be alone)

Hi, I'm new to the thread. It's likely I'll move to Dubai in October, I am currently in Singapore and car-less due to the insane tax on cars here (I do ride around in a Harley though).
The most exciting thing about the move is the ability to drive around in something offensive. Many choices, budget of around 150,000 AED, give or take.
Any thoughts on an old-ish G-Wagen? nowhere else in the world could I cope with single digit MPG. I can see myself buying a trailer and a KTM to thrash around in the desert too.
Thanks for reading

Can't comment on the g-wagon, apart from the fact there are loads of them here to choose from.
As for the KTM, good choice!
The Emirates Desert Championship has just finished but will start again in Sept/Oct and is great fun if you are looking to ride/race in enduro.
Failing that there is a big community of riders here who ride regularly.
It's starting to get hot so it means early morn rides. That said, this time of year means there are plenty of bikes for sale.
I'd recommend at least a 350 if you're spending most of your time in the 'proper' desert.
There is a an MX track over at Jebel Ali.
I ride a 2014 450 sxf, and can't fault it. KTM have a decent amount of spares in stock most of the time (more so than the other dealerships/brands here.) however, worth bearing in mind it is a pain in the ass to get things ordered and delivered to dubai if they don't have stock.
MX specialists worth looking at are SRG, Seb-Sports and Gecko.

Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated. I'll definitely get some proper firepower (450 at minimum). I was thinking of a 2-stroke bike, as that's what I used to race. Let's see. As for the KTM, good choice!

As for the car, I guess I'm having what they call "G-Fever". Looking at the prices of these second hand they seem to retain value even with 200,000km on or more. According to popular belief the're indestructible. That's what I'm after.

that's not a g63, its either a g500 or 55 with a bodykit. this tells me all i need to know about the seller.
You're right about the bodykit. It looks like 99% of the G wagens in the UAE have had that treatment. There are some interesting G500s imported from Japan that look good. To be honest, I'd even by happy with a chavved-up car like the one in the link. All badges to go on day 1 though.

there's plenty of honest ones around, no need to go for an import or chavved up one. wait til you get here, G wagens are everywhere.
Thanks. I will definitely do that. Any idea on what sort of budget do I have to start with for an honest car? (Sorry for hijacking the thread ) Had a drive in a C63 AMG 507 coupe this morning, always fancied a drive in a C63 but the 507 was a particular rare chance.
However other than the noise, outright power and the gearbox it was a bit of a let down.
Suspension is ridiculously hard to the point its a joke, interior was like sitting in a C180 merc with possibly the most uncomfortable seats ive ever sat in.
Still would fancy a C63 normal spec as a daily, engine was epic.

A (seemingly) good condition 635.....

A (again, seemingly) nice E500 (which I have to go and look at)

And another (with spidey senses tingling)

And yet another....

Going to look at them over the next few days, basically wanted one for years, and now seems as good a time as any...
