Based on my current experience...very!

The company I work for is recruiting on the cheap by going on Monster rather than using the agency they used for me because of the fee's.

As they will report into me I'm tasked with going through the CV's.

The ad clearly states a Minimum of 3 years food development or menu development experience.

Out of the 8 CV's I've looked at so far, none at all have any relevant skills/experience or qualifications..

The latest is from a graduate (who hasnt graduated yet) who is currently working in New Look with an un-related degree with only a clothes shop as work experience..

Other CV's include an ethnic chef who needs a visa, an account director for a telecoms company and 2 general managers who's salary expectations are over 80k.

The role is only advertised at 35k.

For the life of me I cant work out why people are banging off CV's for this role without thinking:

Experience..check
Salary expectations..check
Suitable...check

Does anyone else who does this on a daily basis have the same issues, or is it just me?

It's not just you. When someone is out of work, and they are struggling to find employment in their primary field, they become desperate (understandably). They may have a family to feed, mortgage to pay and possibly even school fees. They will therefore be keen just to get in to employment to prevent the dreaded 'gap' in their CV and in hope that they can make a go of any new role and begin the climb again. They may also be gambling that you are on the lookout for something else that their CV may spark an interest for you.

If you are not getting what you need, either it's in short supply or you are not marketing properly, or both. This is where you do need a specialist recruiter and not a generalist website. The additional costs are easily covered by reduced time wasted by yourselves and lack of productivity whilst you are looking (in vain!). Good luck!
