10 odd years after its first life as a racecar and about a year after we started rebuilding it for the road the locost is nearly ready, have decided to get a livery of some sort put on it to make it stand out a bit and so far have worked up these three in photoshop, my own interpretation of classic ford RS colours, a Martini type livery and one based on the rothmans colours from Vatanens escort back in the day, any opinions on what strikes people the most out of these and any other ideas? also planning to try an alitialia livery, quite keen on retro race/ rally themes for the colours

I think the first one is a bit too much - comes on too strong, almost hypnotic for the eyes.
Really like the last one - very subtle

Martini out of those three for me.

I really like these kind of liveries at the moment. There a few Lotus 2-11 race cars running similar and they look superb IMHO.

First two, too garish; last one, really nice.

Another couple for you to consider:

Lotus green withv yellow stripe and red steering wheel and seats,

Gulf pale blue with orange stripe edged with black pinstripes.

Nice photoshopping by the way!

Third one is best. Others are too showy for me.

having wandered around a damp field all day looking at similar cars (Newark kit car show) I decided should I ever get one then it would JPS colour scheme or Redbull racing.

yes was at newark yesterday, the red bull idea is good just a bit too current for what we are after, the JPS i have seen done a few times and really would need a colour change as the car is finished in white at the minute.

Thanks for the comments guys, the martini one is eye catching but probably too much in reality, if it was a race car or just a show car maybe that would be the livery but its too strong for the road.

I do like the classic lotus colours but wouldn't do it that way just because its something that has been done a few times, the gulf scheme is a good one too and would have the right sort of look

Tried an alitalia one but don't think it would work at least not the one i've done, i think ultimatly its going to be an evolution of the RS influenced scheme so i've done a bit more development on that to combine some of the ideas used in the other schemes

For me, definitely the 3rd one - nice and subtle.

The other two might look better if the wings were in plain white?

How do you do that on PS? I'm not bad at tweaking contrast and removing redeye and stray lamposts, but this is witchcraft.

what he said, and using the colour balance and levels to get the shades i want

Thanks for the input guys, again the BRM one i like but its been done on sevenesque cars before and the alan man colours would really need a red colour change which which isn't going to happen, has to have white as a base colour

Think it is going to be along the lines of the third one, was very tempted by the martini one for a while but having marked out some shapes on the car with electrical tape i began to realise just how violent it would be!

The others were done on the basis of having a white car and there being so much that we could do with it, in true locost style are going to do all the vinyl ourselves via material bought on ebay but lots of practice on some old wings and noses first!

will post the result when its done

Bit of an update on this, the livery is now on and just fitted the new wheels for road use. Bonnet is at a funny angle at present due to the engine being out, car has run well but with a niggly leak from the sump which should be sorted now and hopefully will get another test run before the winter really comes on.

Car as it is right now:
