what would people recommend...

budget: less than £90
helmet mount or bar mount - which is better (i know a lot come with adaptors for both)
currently considering magicshine 808e or bikeray 3. seems you can get iro 1000 lumens (although i would question this - probably more like 700 i imagine)

all advice welcome as long as its under £90!

Hope vision 1? i know the documented output is nothing like the 1000 lumens mark, but they are solid lights.

Fenix does a nice rubber block bar mount which is very cheap, then you can do what chap above says with a couple of Ebay torches. Can't beat having one on the bike and one on the helmet for all round flexibility.

Avoid Ebay for these things - check out deal extreme - I've got one of these : http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mj-808-ha-iii-ssc-p7-...

They are extremely bright and last well enough for a serious nightime excursion. Check out the rest of the site for P7 torches. Mine took about 3 weeks to arrive, so this time of year is a good time to order.

I've got x2 of these:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/ultrafire-ssc-p7-2-mo...

One on the bars and one on the helmet.
They are great!

You need these batteries :
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/trustfire-protected-1...

I bought 4 in order to have some spares

This charger works with them:

This is what I use to attach to helmet and bars:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/lockblock-velcro-mount-bike-...

The whole setup is cheap as chips for what you get.
I think the lights are amazing value.
Took about 3 weeks from deal extreme.

Thanks for all your replies. In the end I went for a bikeray3. I've already got a moon x power 300, so I'll put one on the helmet and one on the bars. I'm new to the whole off road mtb thing so I think it will be trial and error but good fun on the way
