Not 100% certain on the dipstick where it was, but was serviced when we got it a month ago from Mini. But checked the other night and halfway visibly on the dipstick now the oil has got a bit dirtier from use. Mate says his uses a bit of oil, but what is the average everyone is using please, just so I can sleep better tonight LOL...........

Which model have you got?

Apparently MINI say it's ok that the R56 uses 1 litre per 1000 miles

My R53 doesn't use much at allsmile

I'm glad someone raised this!

I filled my cooper s up with oil to about 3/4 up the dipstick Mid May.

Last week I checked again as was way too low on the dipstick!

so it used the best part of 1 litre in a month! apprently after looking around its fairly common!

Mines the same, it's used 1 litre in about 1500 miles.

I've just done Le mans and back in mine (55 plate cooper s), 1000 miles and it hasn't dropped. Our R56 Cooper S did use a tad though...

My R53 goes through quite a bit to be honest. Check it once a week. There are never any oil splodges underneath the car though. Must be the way I drive driving

Think I have found the reason on oil loss, as it looks like the sump is leaking, although I will have to get under it to confirm. I believe its not a big job to change the sump gasket, anyone done one on here?

does your car have air con? cause if so it is a bit harder, cause you have to move the air con compressor out of the way (dont undo the gas pipes!) which normally means removing front bumper and moving the rad + plastic holder forwards a bit.

Yes, I have air con. Bumper is only 5 mins to take off, as have done that before. Whats the book time for the sump gasket change at a garage as cant be bothered rolling around on the drive making a mess doing it.Sods law the after warranty on the car doesnt state any gaskets for the car etc..........I might even call the guy we bought it from ( trader) and see if he will help in any way.

It should be 17 AWs (according to BMW book times) which in real world means 1.4 hours as it has A/C.

Cool, not too bad then, if on a ramp. So gasket and a new gallon of oil, although only changed a month ago, I wont decant out and put back in. I might call the warranty people up and see as well. We dont do huge mileage and obviously only weeps when being driven, although the edge of the sump has oil droplets hanging off it when stopped.
