The script has been leaked and if you're interested this is a synopsis:

But be warned, if you're a fan-boy and this is the outline script its a serious spoiler!

Earth. Year 2058.

Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space jockeys). These "Alien Gods" also terraformed Earth in order to make it habitable for their human creations. Amongst finds are coordinates to the Alien God's home-world, to Paradise. Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship PROMETHEUS and his crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel a few years later the PROMETHEUS enters the Zeta Riticuli star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported further into space to a scary yet fascinating world. The Alien Gods are proud of their "children", their first creation to reach such levels of intelligence.

As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based technologies with the humans. But for one crew member of the Prometheus it's not enough. In a treacherous act he steals the "bio-source code" to Terraforming, a technology at the origin of all Gods' power, that could make humans equal to the gods. The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors, destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals. They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a creature used to "clean up" worlds before colonization. But something goes wrong in the process and humans manage to turn the bio-weapon against their makers. Giving birth to a smarter, nastier, bigger breed of gut eating creatures. Creatures that will be the demise of Paradise. What's left of the Prometheus crew manages to escape the doomed planet.

On their trail a survivor Alien God in very familiar ship with one ultimate mission.

Bring the wrath of the Gods to Earth.

I don't know what he person posting the 'leaked script', Annalee Newitz, problem is with this - if it is indeed the script - I think its about as good as I would have hoped it would be.

Entitled: 'If this is actually the real plot for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, just shoot us now' she(?) says:

"A tipster has forwarded us what somebody close to the production on Prometheus claims is the plot outline to Ridley Scott's long-awaited prequel to Alien. We're fairly dubious that this is the actual plot. And not only are we skeptical about the authenticity of this outline, but we're really hoping that our skepticism is justified. Because if this is the real plot outline to the flick . . . well, abandon all hope. It's like an awful cross between Beneath the Planet of the Apes and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock."

I don't agree with that at all - indeed the plot outlined, if done properly by Ridley, sounds both fresh and eerie with plenty of room for shocks along the way. Also, H.R.Giger is on-board and contrary to previous rumours not just in an advisory capacity but actually making some of the Creature(s) and set design.

[geek mode] My only gripe is that its set in the year 2058 which is way too soon for some of the stuff mentioned in the script to be happening. Sadly, in order to fit in with the time-line in the original Alien film, it has to be set around that time. [/geek mode]

I think that sounds awesome. I was wondering how they'd get some human involvement (and fallacies) into it.

Actually that seems an interesting and almost "believable" way of making a prequel with human actors in it, rather than just a pointless creature feature. It also has some mileage in working on ideas at different levels, however at the same time because it does, I'd say a big worry on how this would be viewed from the bible belt shock jocks in the US, as it seems running the narrow line and ripe for interpretation, from self publicist 'bible' basher, sailing close to some blasphemous ideas.

Of course, it'll have to be in 3D to justify the budget, which I don't think Scott is a fan of, and Ridley would be wiser to leave his own classic alone. Still I'd rather Scott have a go as at least it will have a good budget, some A listers, and more often than not he turns out a good movie.

All films sound good in synopsis mode. It's whether they can get it right on film that matters.

Might be good. But tbh, I thought the whole project had been canned last year?

Someone I know who has managed to get a sneak peek on the set has said it's pretty cool, which is good as they're a big Alien and Aliens fan. Will read the script in a sec and see what all the hype/or not(!) is about.

At least we know it will look good even if the story is a bit poor. Seems a reasonable premise though if it's real, and Ridley does get the best out of actors unlike the Paul WS chap - how does he still keep making films, I'm sure he must interview against Uwe Boll or something.

Sounds decent to me....I have always been ambivalent aboot whether the alien should be natural or GM. In the third film I laid out it would have been natural and the trilogy would have followed a natural progression, but they fraked that up.
If it doesn't work they can just ignore it anywaybiggrin Wish I hadn't sold my ALien comics now, they had the Space Jockey in them...bit of a st as I recall.

If they go with the above story what's the deal on the wrath of god ship? Do people forget aboot it, or did humans never know? Could be quite good.

I believe Ridley is (or at least was) making 2 Prometheus films so if thats the case I expect this first one to leave some questions un-answered.

It does sound quite good, I read the Aliens spin off books when I was younger and there are similarities between the two.

The concept of the 'elephant' aliens, the one seen dead in his chair in the first film, was picked up on in the books, with them being the creators of the nasty aliens, although it was never really elaborated on further.

The books had the aliens infest Earth after being picked up in space, and humankind bugged out to outer space, then the main characters came across an Army General living in an asteroid that was trying to train the aliens to fight with us and take back Earth. (which went badly, obviously) Eventually we get Earth back, and use some gel that the aliens secrete to make drugs out of.

I have high hopes for the film, seeing as Ridley Scott is the director, he won't let it descend into the action stupidity that the AVP films did, (even they didn't stick to the rather good books) so I can see a good solid film coming from it.

It's just a shame he's done what everyone seems to be doing these days which is 'prequels', if he'd done a film of the books, it could have been awesome.

ETA: The 'Elephant' or 'Space Jockies' aliens were given a bit more of a role in the books, one was floating around observing what was going on on Earth, and was communicating with one of the main characters telepathically. It was known that they were an ancient, technologically advanced race.

In a story I remember from one of my comics the Space Jockeys come to Earth to take it over. The President of the world goes up to meet them, and he has an alien inside him, he sacrifices himself for the planet. The SPs are terrified of the aliens and that's the end of their mission.

I've seen the unfinished Aliens, and can confirm they look pretty mean! When they're finished they're going to look gruesome!

I also know a specially made £1m floor at Pinewood didn't look right or meet approval by Scott, and was subsequently covered in gravel/shingle, so it doesn't seem budget is too much of an issue!

What will make it or break it is whether it's aimed at adults. And when I say 'adults', I don't mean the Hostel / Saw demographic.

Isn't Dark Star the true Prequel?

Just remake that with a decent budget.
