2004 Mini Cooper Rev counter just gone - shows 6k at tickover and computer read out is blank.

Easy fix would be to get a second hand one and swop over but after talking to the main dealer (read - rip off) they said a new one would need to be programmed to set it up for the car at £108.

Is this correct if a second hand one was available ( around £50 on ebay as against £200 new) would it just plug and play ?
Thanks
Steve

IIRC they plug and play. Have you checked the plug is not loose?

I took the unit off and cleaned the plug and contacts and it works !!
surprised really as the connection is well protected and doesn't move so thought it wouldn't make a difference but so far so good
Cheers for the suggestion
