Job Predicament
Discussion
Hi guys, I’m a regular poster here but have created a new profile to protect my anonymity.
Got a slight predicament at the moment, which I’m trying to work out how to manage.
Basic crux: I’m in a job that I enjoy and am good at, in a field that is only going one way – up.
I have been approached by company A who want me to go work for them. This job, industry, prospects are fantastic – this is the job I want. I have already been offered the job, we’ve spoken money, and I’m now waiting for a contract to come through.
At the same time, I have also been approached by company B, who have also asked me to go work for them. The job would be working for an old colleague who is setting up the UK arm of a global business. It would be a direct competitor to what I am doing now. I have only just been told that I am part of a larger recruitment process with telephone interview and presentation tomorrow morning (!).
My heart is set with joining company A for a number of reasons, however I am keeping company B on side in case anything goes wrong with signing the contract for company A. In other words, company A is 1st choice, company B 2nd choice, current company 3rd choice.
My worry is that things with company B seem to be moving very quickly, and I don’t want to find myself with a firm job offer/contract from them before I get to sign with company A.
Neither company knows I am in talks with anyone else, but I am not sure how to handle it.
Can anyone provide any advice?
Thanks

Hi Penny,
Speak to your preferred company about your situation explaining that you really want to work for them but have another company moving quicker through the recruitment process as you put it. It will encourage them to think that you're worthwhile employing. I did this and it worked out in the end. I mean I spoke to my preferred company, not yours.
