Just need some advice please.
My tyres are down to 2-3mm tread depth. I normally replace them once they get below 3mm, but I have Vmax and 2 track days around the corner. Should I change them before Vmax or not? Is Brunters heavy on tyres? Would I be better leaving these old boots on? I'm thinking about if the heavens open......I wouldn't be happy trying for 160mph+ with only 2-3mm tread depth on my tyres.
Sorry for this franky very boring question.
John.

Vmax is not a trackday, so you won't be doing a lot of fast cornering.

If it's wet you'll need the deeper tread of new tyres, but once you reach a certain speed, if it's really wet you just aquaplane anyway. I did 180mph in standing water there on a private day in the GT2 and it was jumping 3-6 feet sideways when hitting deep puddles at that speed.

I think you've answered your own question

If it really is soaking I would not fancy mega speeds with little tread (but then even with full tread would be hairy).

But if its dry its no problem. You won't get much wear just tearing up a straight line and braking HARD at the end. If your trackdays are after Brunters I personally would leave changing them until after the trackdays

diver944,
Yup, the track days are after Brunters, so I would be saving money if I don't change them before then I suppose. If it rains at Brunters, I'll have to be very careful! (Or do donuts like I did at the last wet day I attended at an airfield http://bmw330d.users.btopenworld.com/crail2a-512.wmv
I know, neither big nor clever ).

Guy,
That sounds a little hairy. You must have testicles like planets.

Our tyres were not worn after Vmax4 than they were before, I thought it would finish them off, but they are still legal even now. Depends how heavy your car is.

Cheers Gazboy. I'll have to get the depth guage out again tomorrow and see where I am.

Eh? You said earlier he couldn't do it?

Presume he's found a "donor" car in Liverpool somewhere?

Yeah but you know how it is: it'll get to 4 o'clock today and it'll be a phone call saying I need a new engine btw and that'll be your left kidney, ta very much.

One of the blokes from work came with me and brought me back in his Scooby, a real blinger but I tell 'ee whaat, those things can be stupidly quick orf the line: I reckon to 70 or 80 this nuthouse special would keep up with just about anything.

RRres'pec, innit?
