I wanted to ask a question from the more experienced watch buyers on here.
I recently received a bit of money from an inheritance and rather than waste it have decided to spend some of it on a watch so that I have something thats hopefully going to last a while to remind me of the person. (Without sounding like a gayer they were very important to me and this seems like a nice way)
I have been looking at getting an Omega of some sort and whilst reading up on them came accross Blowers website.
They sell what they call Pre-Owned but Unused watches and from the photos it looks like its literally that.
For me it seems like a very logical thing to do. For the same reason I wouldnt buy a brand new car it looks like I can buy a very nice watch and someone else takes the initial hit on the depreciation. Whilst Im not buying this to sell on the person who left me the money would definitly approve of me making a saving.
Is there any downsides to this? Without getting into a slagging match has anyone had any positive experiences of Blowers? I live at the other end of the country and would probably deal with them over the phone depending on the experiences

from me.Blowers have a good reputation, but Id try Dom Hackett (a member on this forum) first. Of course, you might be looking for an item the like of which Dom cant supply, but Id always give him a try first - I havent heard a bad word said about him.
On a separate note: Id probably look for a Rolex as a keep-sake, although I realise that your budget might not stretch that far, or they may simply not appeal to you. I say this having collected a small safe full of old Omegas too.....

When looking at pre-owned but unworn stock it can be worth seeing what the real cost of buying new would be.
Obviously it all depends on what exactly you're looking at, but there's usually scope to get a fair chunk off list prices if you're prepared to take the time to find a authorised dealer who wants to shift a new one and secure the business.

I was looking at the Milgauss in Goldsmiths this weekend and without any serious haggling they offered me 5% off the standard model. This puts it at the price typically advertised by the respected 2nd hand dealers. The question is do the likes of Blowers usually expect some kind of bartering?

Just bought a Rolex SD (16600) from Blowers. Rang them up at 4pm, received the watch next day at 11am. 8 years old, absolutely mint, with toolkit, anchor keyring, spare links, manuals, everything.
Very professional to deal with. They send the watch on approval i.e. if you are not happy you get your money back.

I've just bought a black Planet Ocean in much the same circumstances as you, my Dad passed away on 2nd June and left a small amount of cash to myself and my 2 brothers. I got 20% off retail plus free engraving, the used versions I saw were only a hundred quid or so less than this and it made sense for me to go brand new and get the full warranty etc. Contact DomH as already said and I'm sure if you ask nicely he'll help out I will ring Blowers in the morning I think

Agree with above. As a side note many have said in the past that Blowers are overpriced but I feel they also provide top quality service. I bought a Rolex datejust/turn-o-graph from them a while back, they fitted a new crystal and it came serviced by them prior to sale. Also included an insurance valuation without me asking which is a nice touch. My personal opinion but I would always much rather have a watch mechanically sound rather than tarted up and this is very much the approach they take IMHE. All of this should be taken into account when comparing prices.
The funny thing is the 2 turn-o-graphs I have seen since for sale by 2 of the other big name secondhand dealers were both priced far higher than what mine cost me from Blowers.
On the question of giving it a bit of a barter, well it doesn't hurt to try if you catch my drift.
