Evening all

I am Dan from Yorkshire. I am a plumber, gained my city and guids 6089 qualifications in may 2009 after a 2 year day release apprenticeship with college.

I have 4 years on site experience mainly domestic, but I have worked on a castle before, yep a castle (tickhill to be exact).

I then went onto carry out my gas qualifications at a training centre due to college cancelling all nvq3 courses. I have ccn1 and met1, and was hoping to go straight into metering. This is a year on and only 1 interview with eon I seem to have hit a brick wall on this one.

I would like to know if anyone is in metering? and could possible put me in touch with someone? because no matter how many compaines i phone or email you always seem to get the receptionist who reads it and probably deletes itsmile

I realise to get anywhere to need to know people on the inside to make things happen.

You're moving in to a low barrier sector, which might explain your lack of progress. Added to the slowdown in the housebuilding sector, your timing may not be good. The only glimmer I can see is the need for millions of existing older type meters to be updated. This is a massive task and should be providing opportunities for those willing to follow the work. Again however, timing is everything, as I know that huge recruitment drives by the major players have been underway over the last couple of years so opportunities may now be very limited. (family member in the sector). Good luck!

I had a smart meter fitted by Enterprise (http://www.enterprise.plc.uk/) last year. They are sub contracted by british gas to fir meters I believe? Have you tried them?

I'm also sure British Gas have a recruitment drive on at the moment? Have you looked at the careers section on their website?

Get in touch with Meterplus if you can, they're probably the biggest MOP in the Yorkshire area.

Hello to all who replied and thank you biggrin

I tried meterplus they deal with electrical only - electric meters

british gas i applied for a while ago - took me ages to apply and received a rejection i was p&ssed

enterprise they take on people through agencies

tried many companies

i think ill say ive been defeated on this one!

what i will be doing is taking the rest of my modules in central heating, cookers, fires etc and going self employed, i have a vr6 at the minute, ive been threatening to sell it for a while now but it has to go as much as i want to keep it, but after 2 years and not much work i have no real reason for owhning it. Cars can wait !

Cheers
Dan
