072 if your car isnt one of the early ones like mine.

spent the early afternoon fitting one for a local PHer and reminded myself what an arse of a job it is.

Voltaire53 went for the halfrauds one as a straight replacement. Think he said it was around £70 - £75.

My one from Maccess was a Fiamm and has been fine since I stuck it in there. Mine is a slightly smaller size due to it being an early chim but I still managed to get a 630A one which has proved sufficient

honestly cant remember mate. I think it might have been though yes. I bought the 072 as suggested, tried to fit it and realised it was too big. took out the old one, measured it, went back to maccess and swapped the 072 for the one that fitted using a tape measure and checking it was powerful enough for a V8

Your car is an older one than mine (looks great in your pic!) but 072 for later models, 065 for older I think. Make sure the cranking amps are high 500s+

I am the person Schnozz (fab bloke) fitted the battery for and I got a Halfords 072 for a perfect fit in an S Reg - first change so had to drill out the rivets ... and the floor was black so couldn't mark it up with a black pen!

I don't know when the switch from early to late Chim comes sorry.

Pig of a job even on the later, 'easier' models so good luck.

easiest way to tell is by taking out the carpets in the base of the footwell and having a look. Mine was noticeably different to yours mate. When you remove the carpet in your (later) car there was a fabric covered fibreglass box that enclosed all sides of the battery (including the top ) and was a lot wider in that it fitted snugly across the entire base of the footwell, bar the ecu which was sat alongside it neater slotted in place.

In my (early) chim the battery box sat over to the left of the base of the footwell and the cover to the battery was bolted vertically in front of the battery itself. it wasnt covered with fabric and my battery sat about 2 inches off the floor angled down slightly towards the front wheels.

In short, a 072 if its like the former, a 065 if its as pert the latter....

I spent last weekend modifying my battery box to make it less of a pain.

Took a jigsaw to the front panel of the box and cut out the whole front and then fitted some hinges to the box and the 'door'. The door is held closed with velcro hooks, which stick to the carpet glued to the battery box. The whole thing is pretty sturdy i.e. you can tip the box so the whole weight of the batt is on the hinged door and the velcro fastener.

I reckon this is a better solution, since it allows the relays, fuse box and ecu to be left unmolested when taking the batt out and gets round the job of unbolting the box (or worse rebolting in place) which needs sealing etc afterwards

In a 99% of big crashes the momentum of the batt would be forward, away from the 'door' anyway.

Will try and post a photo of the design

thats a great idea. nicely thought out Sir

Luckily mine is an earlier design which in fact means the box is set out differently in that the "front" that faces you when the carpet is removed. You then unbolt the front piece (which ended up in the garage never to be replaced again ) and the battery sits up on a ledge about 2 inches off the floor. The ledge is tilted down towards the front of teh car and holds the battery in place.

I just cant believe the fibreglass box of the later cars has a riveted top to it. Do TVR really never expect the battery to be removed why on earth this wasnt bolted or using self tappers is beyond me. oh, i have it now, that would be far too simple...

Yeah mine had that piece of crap on it but it had long since come loose.

Again a couple of velcro hook strips ( 'Duck' Velcro comes in a roll about 2 inches wide, 5m long, great for these jobs) , over the top of the box do the same 'brace' job should you roll it and but unfasten any time you like! In fact thinking about it it could do both jobs!!!!

I just stick it to scrap of the interior carpet (the crappy stuff not the deep pile ) for a neat finish
