Took the Savage to a local beach yesterday.

As I was leaving, I was flagged down by a guy, who turned out to be, the man who owned it when this photo was taken!

Small world!smile
Wow, this takes me back! I remember that car, as pictured at the bottom, when I used to buy MkII Cortina parts from a bloke who lived near the Little Chef on the A31, just west of Stoney Cross (I had a 1600 Super at the time). I think the house was called 'Manor House' or something similar, and it was his dad's house.

If I remember correctly he wanted £1500 for the car, and this must have been in 1989 - give or take a few months! I really wanted that car, but I couldn't afford it. The bloke also had a very nice original condition Ermine White 1600E without (I think) its vinyl roof.

It's fantastic to see the car restored as I have often wondered what happened to it. It looks great in that colour scheme.

Actually, now that I think of it, he wanted £1200 for the Savage and it was the 1600E that was £1500.

That guy now runs the car sales in Ashurst, if you know it?

He has a small collection of immaculate Fast Fords, including a 3 door Cosworth, and a Mk2 Mexico. I haven't seen them though! frown

I didn't know that (I've just looked them up online). Good to see that he appears to be doing well though. He was a decent bloke to deal with.

I haven't replied because I can't find the damned review of the car. Can someone tell me when they were launched and I'll work from there. I know I've read it, but I have 30 years of Autocat here from the 1950's on, and that is a hell of a lot of magazines! I guess about 1966/7, but confirmation would enable me to be more precise. Ta.

Found some pics of my aubergine mk2 Savage. Sold it in late'02/early'03 for £350. All it needed was the exhaust repairing.

Checked on askmid and it's still insured.

Who's got NRX 290F now?

Curioser. There was no 17/7/71 magazine, only 8/15/22 and it isn't in any of those.

Gentlemen, from the Autocar Motor Show edition of 24/10/1968 I give you the Savage road test:-

However, in the opening words it says that this is the Savage II, so there must have been an earlier version and I guess it too was road tested.

Thanks so much for this article, takes me back to my youth. smile

With regard to the Savage II, was there an original done with a Mk I Cortina? Just a thought as I genuinely can't remember...

Did the Ford heads hear Saturday Live on Radio 4 on Saturday? It featured a retired police officer reunited with his former police car, a four door Lotus Cortina?
Did it sound ok? . . . . I was in it! wink
smile As far as I can remember. I was on R4 about 3-4 years ago, sadly not talking about cars. You must have sounded better than I did!

If I recall right the Savage II was a change from using the 128bhp Zodiac Essex over to the Capri 138bhp Essex. Unfortunately the Savage never got the Capri 3.09 back end!

That looks nice - sounds like it's been re-shelled which makes harping on about the racing background a bit of a moot point though?

Still a rare old thing - wonder what they're after for it?

Has it been reshelled? If it has, they are having a laugh at 20k+!
